BaconIsAVeg,

I’m also not following “not doing anything during and after install” - what do you mean by after install in that sentence?

I made the mistake of trying to pacman -S librewolf not realizing it was going to compile from source. An hour later (on my Ryzen 7 5800X) it wasn’t finished, so I killed it and installed librewolf-bin.

BaconIsAVeg,

I moved from Canada to California a few years ago and spent almost 5 years in the San Jose area. Loved California; the food, the people there, the scenery, definitely the weather. End up hating America though.

BaconIsAVeg,

Really? Might be a chromium thing, I’m running the Outlook and Teams PWA’s with google-chrome without issue. I only use google-chrome for my work account though, everything else is with Vivaldi or LibreWolf.

BaconIsAVeg,

Honestly a big part of why I run Linux is because I could not give a removed about the OS. I don’t want or need the OS to dictate how I launch applications (the Win11 Start Menu sucks), or how I access the file system (try using explorer.exe alternatives).

And I definitely don’t want to have to call a support line just to activate their product after replacing a faulty motherboard just so I can change my desktop background again.

The OS should be as transparent as possible, and Linux gives me that freedom. X or Wayland, dmenu, rofi, lf, ranger, Thunar. I can interact with my PC however the removed I want. I tried Win 11 for 2 weeks and was just outraged that they felt the need to cripple the start menu and revamp the explorer right click behavior.

BaconIsAVeg,

Yes, with the google-chrome PWA I’ve had no issues sharing one of my multi-monitor desktops, or just specific apps.

Maybe later... how about never, you fucks?

It is endlessly frustrating that companies have universally decided that they won’t let people say “no” to stuff, ever. There are no longer options to reject stupid-ass new “features”, only postponement until next time you open the app/website/program. They’ll continue pestering you for the rest of your life. I...

BaconIsAVeg,

Nagware was huge 20 years ago, hell Evernote still does it. They move the nag around each time as well.

BaconIsAVeg,

Just don’t use flatpaks. Problem solved.

BaconIsAVeg,

With an optional purchase to support the dev.

You mean the schuckster trying to make a buck using another free API after the last one booted him out? Guy’s a slimeball.

BaconIsAVeg,

Exactly. That’s his m.o., find a free content farm and charge people to access it. And yet people eat it up, which is insane.

BaconIsAVeg,

I’d be happy if the primarily mobile users fell into open manholes.

BaconIsAVeg,

To be fair, a lot of those people are Reddit refugees that fled to lemmy.world and were fairly removed to begin with. I’m honestly not even sure why they left Reddit to begin with.

BaconIsAVeg,

How fucking bad does your math need to be to not realize that 250k in refunds for a 6 month period where the app is unusable equals 250k in revenue for the first 6 months of the year? All y’all are like “dev needs to eat, he deserves our support!” and the guy’s pulling down over 500k/year.

BaconIsAVeg,

It amazes me the how far Reddit users will bend over backwards to suck this dude’s schlong. Must be a mobile-user thing.

BaconIsAVeg,

I had a mobile app for Reddit on my phone, you know when I used it last? 9 months ago when I was sitting in a waiting room waiting for an oil change. Every other time when I’m away from the computer I’m doing non-fucking-computer things.

This guy’s whole shtick was to make enough money to quit his day job, so he wrote a wrapper around someone else’s content using their free API. “Oh he did it all by himself, that’s amazing!” It’s really not, especially if you’d rather not share the subscription profits with other employees.

The FOSS alternatives? Done by guys with day jobs. They’re passion projects. I can respect that.

But you lot, who will drop to your knees the minute the guy wants to repeat his shtick now that Reddit kicked him to the curb? Zero respect at all.

BaconIsAVeg,

Man, I’d forgotten about what happened yesterday until I saw this post.

Yesterday after work, heading to pick my dog up from daycare. I’m sitting at a red light, front of the line. A song comes on that I don’t want to hear so I’m using the wheel controls to hit next song a few times, and I swear out of the corner of my eye I see the car waiting in the lane to the right of me move forward, so of course I look up and step on the gas.

The light was still red. I didn’t see it until I was through the intersection.

Luckily there was no cross traffic, but man was I breathing hard when I realized how lucky I’d been.

BaconIsAVeg,

Once again, why does any company give a fuck what people on Twatter think? Just ignore them, quit empowering them for fucks sake.

BaconIsAVeg,

“You can sleep all you want, but no more than 24 hours a day.” “But you said all I want!”

BaconIsAVeg,

You can tell it’s fake based on the fact the signatures don’t have 3 images shilling whatever internal feel-good initiative upper management is shilling this month. Those are great for email 2 ticketing systems … sigh.

I hate my life.

Why does Nvidia hate linux? (lemmy.ml)

So I’ve been trying to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers on my homelab so I can get my fine ass art generated using Automatic1111 & Stable diffusion. I installed the Nvidia 510 server drivers, everything seems fine, then when I reboot, nothing. WTF Nvidia, why you gotta break X? Why is x even needed on a server driver....

BaconIsAVeg,

It took a little tweaking but I have Iray and Dforce working for Daz3D under Wine, and FFXIV runs great with it as well. Also got Stable Diffusion running last night without any issues.

All the issues I’ve had have been requiring extra packages or installing some random github nvlibs, and kernel parameters. So as a user, the fact that my nvidia card didn’t work painlessly out of the box without additional configs doesn’t seem like an Nvidia problem…

BaconIsAVeg,

As punchable as his face is, I always remember that he’s the consequence of Kentucky voters. This dude could die tomorrow and literally nothing will change for the better.

BaconIsAVeg,

Shit like this is why people look down on the Fediverse. You’re in /c/Memes, not your usual fedora wearing, neckbeard vegan channel.

BaconIsAVeg,

Fuck anyone who pushes this shit.

Please don’t. There’s enough pollution in the gene pool as it is.
