Mastodon is too much like Twitter.

Lemmy is nice, it's Reddit without the downvoting horseshit, has a native app that works, and no (unavailable) when a snowflake blocks you for using GrapheneOS.

BigTechBlows,

Are you going to copy the posts to the new community?

BigTechBlows,

Sounds good. Perhaps have a pinned post directing people to the new community and not allow new posts in the original.

LordChaos82, to opensource

@OpenSource @foss It would be great if we had a LineageOS/GrapheneOS image that would be similar to Linux distros where they could be installed on any Android phone and it would auto download/install all the drivers needed for the phone to be fully functional. I really hope there is some work being done on this in the background.

#lineageos #grapheneos #opensource

BigTechBlows,

GrapheneOS can be installed on any phone if the manufacturer wants to do so.

BigTechBlows,

The community needs to approve your membership.

Does anyone think that the Fediverse would make a much better next phase for the web then all of this Metaverse bull?

I'd much rather see sites like Lemmy, PeerTube, and Mastodon see widespread adoption then the dystopian cyberpunk fever dream in the head of Zuckerburg. Did you not read the novel dude? It's a freaking warning! That's like Jeff Bezos reading Fahrenheit 451 and going "holy crap dude, gotta make that a reality like, yesterday!" I...

  • Feeder - for reading rss feeds, which takes up more of my time than all social media combined
  • KeePassDX and Aegis - passwords and 2fa
  • Vanilla Music
  • Jerboa
  • Droid-ify
  • Quillpad - note app inspired by google Keep
  • SimpleNotes - checklists. I don't like how Quillpad handles checklists.
  • Newpipe
  • Discreet Launcher
  • FFUpdater - installs and updates browsers
BigTechBlows,

Every time I visited a site with interesting content I looked for the rss symbol. Often times I'll just add .rss or /feed to the site's URL. Sharing the URL with Feeder often works.

I have all feeds in a note encase someone asks for them. Happy to post.

BigTechBlows, (edited )

Yeah, not all sites have an rss feed or it's hard to find. Here is a few tips:

  • 1/Share the url with your rss reader, the reader can search for you. This doesn't always work.
  • 2/Add one of these to the site's url /rss .rss /feed
  • 3/If step 2 doesn't work look for a "blog" or "news" tab and try steps 1 and 2 there.
  • 4 When all else fails ask for feeds, making sure to state the topics you are interested in.
BigTechBlows,

Aurora Store has been having issues for months.

What do you recommend as a good FOSS private and secure chat app on Android that isn't Signal?

I have nothing against Signal. I just don't have access to a phone number right now. I fully intend to use the Signal when I get a number. I know there is no silver bullet, no absolutes in the privacy world but I'm looking for any messengers that are generally considered to be private and secure on Android that I can try to...

BigTechBlows,

There are many regions where ID has to be shown inorder to active a sim.

BigTechBlows,

Thanks for the link with the defererated table. I'll make sure to pass that along to the next person looking for a new server.

BigTechBlows,

I logged out after Friday's disaster. Today, I deleted my account due to a few factors:

I've been bored for months on Reddit. 5000+ subs are closed because Steve is an ass. Twitter, Mastodon, and Lemmy all work fine with a browser. Reddit just sucks without a well made app.

How to make android more Private?

What are everyone's recommendations on making android more private? Given Google's recent behavior around tracking and the like, I'm not really comfortable with then having all of my data. I've even contemplated going to iOS, since apple doesn't have a vested interest in me having less privacy... But I just don't like their OS...

BigTechBlows,

Everything from TheAnonymousJoker is a shitpost.

BigTechBlows,

Discreet Launcher is my favourite. Works great on phone or tablet.

One thing to note is it doesn't support widgets.

BigTechBlows,

Nothing unusual with my feed - news, tech, science, environment. What I may do differently is I set up a filter on Mastodon so any of my feeds are only seen in rss. I really don't need to see a Wired article 6 times.

Does anyone here have a reliable source for listening to old episodes of the The Privacy, Security, & OSINT Show Podcast? (www.inteltechniques.com)

Michael Bazzell’s podcast has been a fantastic resource to me over the years, and I was hoping to re-listen to some of the old episodes. I understand his reasoning for not wanting old episodes to be available through his main channel, but it would be a really nice resource to have old archived episodes available for listening....

BigTechBlows,

There is a community here on Lemmy that claims to have torrent files and transscripts for episodes. https://sopuli.xyz/c/privacysecurityosint

BigTechBlows,

I read several comments claiming the ceo edited other people's comments and changed downvotes to upvotes during the last ama.

Probably a waste of time.
