In the past few days, I've seen a number of people having trouble getting Lemmy set up on their own servers. That motivated me to create Lemmy-Easy-Deploy, a dead-simple solution to deploying Lemmy using Docker Compose under the hood....
SOLVED: The problem was caused because I was using a | In the site name SETUP_SITE_NAME
for some reason the bash script is returning sed: -e expression #7, char 32: unknown option to s'I 've looked online and found nothing that related to my problem. I suspect the problem starts in line 253because the filelemmy.hjsonis empty and thedocker-compose.yml` isn't created.
hi! do you have some IM we could talk please? I am getting insane haha, trying to bring up a server for 4 days now lol I think your method is the closest to work but I am getting something wrong.
Thanks! I just tried the docker-compose.yml you shared and I am getting the follwoing error:
ERROR: The Compose file './docker-compose.yml' is invalid because:
Unsupported config option for networks: 'lemmyinternal'
Unsupported config option for services: 'pictrs'
are you using nginx? I am trying with caddy (because I already use it with other apps) but I can't access, do you have some idea how I could debug where the issue is?
ou might have seen that we've been defederated from beehaw.org. I think there's some necessary context to understand what this means to the users on this instance....
People staying on Reddit does not impact you in any way
Well, it actually does.
The main thing is we NEED to get rid of these companies controlling internet content. It is bad for the future of the internet and the future of information.
As society progress communication and information over the internet are getting every day more important, that's why activity pub and federation are so important right now. The more people adopt the fediverse the lesser control over us these companies will have.
All the information the collective built on reddit wasn't done with the intent to give that to Reddit, it was done to people for the people, to help each other in the community.
I agree, I am not the OP. I am not angry, I only sad they affect us.
Objectively this affect not only us, but everyone that will ever need to search for information online.

Hi! I am on the process to host a instance for a large subreddit to migrate to lemmy. I already played with hosting with docker before, and the ansible method seem even easier!
What I am concerned is about the storage. I need to have a way to calculate before hand because I am afraid of the costs.
I have an always free tier oracle cloud vps I could use, and buy some extra storage.
Having trouble deploying Lemmy? Try my new script! Get up and running in minutes!

Over the next week or so I'm sure a lot of people are going to try spinning up Lemmy instances - I've certainly been looking at it....
If you want to host and manage your own Lemmy instance but are intimidated by the technical requirements, I can help!
