What do you think about that most big VR technology is owned by big companies like Meta and Tik Tok?

I mean yeah it’s obvious that it’s an oportunity for making money on a new marked and so on, but, even if it’s a bit silly, dreaming of VR technology like in Ready Player One(minus the distopian world) for real life it feels like the bad guys already won, when we will have the technology. Like the omni One is just about to...

ChrissieWF,

Have it since 2018, currently play about 5 hrs a week.
It’s fun exercise!

You can only pick 2 games from steam to play for the rest of your life, what games are they? (sh.itjust.works)

I have a large library of steam games, but yet always come back to Garry mod and ravensfield. I keep coming back for the modded content and every other game is excellent, don’t get me wrong. But a lot of big games like RD2 and watchdogs 2 just seem like such a long time investment. What 2 games do you infinitely come back to?

ChrissieWF,

So, we’re just talking Steam - that means I can keep playing Fortnite either way. And my GOG library I suppose :>

From Steam I’d pick:

  • Beat Saber, it’s my sport
  • Stellaris, so I can keep playing it with my SO
ChrissieWF,

There is a difference between “not putting the work in to make it run on Linux” vs. “actively preventing it to run on Linux”

Netflix DRM is an example of the latter, just like Epic disabling their Linux-support in EAC for Fortnite.

ChrissieWF,

My Amiga 500 is from 1987.
But I think the stereo & LP player in the living room is from the early 70s.

ChrissieWF,

I generally suck at playing shooters with controllers but I was looking forward to try the Gyro controls for Fortnite.

You can as a workaround play Fortnite on the Deck via XBox Live in a browser. But there you don’t have Gyro controls :(

ChrissieWF,

Peewees is referred to kids in amateur sports between 12-13 years of age

that’s probably the missing piece of information for most ^^’

ChrissieWF,

There are many VRChat world like this, and some of them quite photorealistic

ChrissieWF,

Used to be addicted to only coffee but an Ireland trip introduced me to the idea of tea with milk.
Now it’s coffee during working hours, Yorkshire tea with (vanilla soy) milk otherwise.

Why?
I am addicted to coffein and really like the taste of (milky) tea
I can also justify my addiction with the various health benefits from both coffee and tea (which even complement each other a bit).

I also have some green matcha tea occasionally, or a Matcha Latte, as I find the taste of matcha rather intriguing.

ChrissieWF,

So, when someone asks if you are free the next two weekends, you assume they’re talking about the next Saturday (tail weekend) and the next Sunday (front weekend)?

ChrissieWF,

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, undso :)

ChrissieWF,

Sadly, Fortnite doesn’t run on Linux. EAC has Linux support in general but Epic doesn’t it for Fortnite…
Was one of the first things I tried on my Steamdeck after installing HeroicLauncher. Would have been nice with the gyro.

ChrissieWF,

The amount of words that are not “stolen” from other languages is neglible…

Germany, mid 30s, all the cars I’ve owned were manual so I would say - yes :D

First time I drove a rental automatic I did an accidental hard stop at about every second crossroads as I intended to hit the clutch with my left foot and lacking one just hammered the breaks instead >.>

When driving combustion I prefer manual but I’ve recently driven some EV, I could get used to that feel :)

ChrissieWF,

It can be more confusing than you think at first, all the N/D/L stuff, some then also have 1/2/3, which “gear” to you start the car in, what to do when you come to a full stop (nothing, doh), …

The very first time I sat behind one was to drive a family friend home who drunk a bit too much, with his own car… I was a bit overwhelmed

ChrissieWF,

I’ve been told to leave them out in direct sunlight, haven’t tried yet tho.

ChrissieWF,

Community (It is far easier to “other” someone that you rarely or never meet in person. Not so easy if they are showing you pictures of their kids every day. “Sally just got a new particle accelerator! Isn’t she so lovely! This is her sinking Manhattan!”)

That’s just super relative.
All my active friendships are 90% online and many of those people I very deeply care about. We meet every now and then, on vacations or for special occasions, and have a really amazing time. But we also have a really good time doing online activities together, keeping in touch more or less daily via messages and actively sharing our lives with each other.

On the other hand, othering is very much a thing that happens in person and feels a lot worse when it does happen in person. When every day you see 2-3 colleagues acting differently with you than amongs themselves or with others.
Working from home it is a lot easier to be selective with people you interact beyond the work stuff and avoid negative interactions, or interactions that drain your social batteries.

ChrissieWF,

Can really recommend that as well!
It’s fairly close to the CLI in a way, unless you turn it off you even see the console in/output in a window during/after each action. To anyone that usually prefers CLI git, have a look - it’s really nice to see the visualisation of the branches in the timeline.

You can define your preferred Merge/Difftools, I really like TurtoiseMerge so that’s what I’m rolling with. For a bunch of merge tools it simplifies the config:

ChrissieWF,

Thunderbird - a bit slouchy at times but featurewise I’m very happy with it :)

ChrissieWF,

As for me - can’t play Fortnite on Proton/SteamOS

ChrissieWF,

No, since I can’t sensibly use Reddit on my phone.
I misread - yes, I use Lemmy somewhat less now than I used to use Reddit. Which is probably a good thing^^

ChrissieWF,

Was ich mir für die stillgelegten Schienen gut vorstellen könnte wäre das Monocab: www.monocab-owl.de

Das ist ja mal sowas von cool, hoffe das wird umgesetzt! Echt spannend!

ChrissieWF,

“Males” sounds just as awkward in such a context.

ChrissieWF,

No one claimed it is, when used as an adjective :)

ChrissieWF,

Dunno if counts as a game really… But about 4k hrs of VRChat - love the place and the friends I made there!

ChrissieWF, (edited )

Dungeon of the Endless - It’s a tower defense / tactical game with great pixel art and one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard.

Doesn’t actually appear to be on sale tho
