Codilingus,

If you share your water or electricity with a neighbor, I think they can cut you off and/or fine you. Probably dependent on the state?

Codilingus,

Look up TPUs, like a coral tensor. Extremely efficient at machine learning, only, and cheap. If NPUs use anything like a TPU, then it absolutely can do local “AI.” Then once the heavy lifting is done, then I’d imagine all that data is uploaded.

Codilingus,

Unless you built with like, really old parts, I’m not sure how this would be a problem?

Codilingus,

Then you should be fine to install W11. I’m on AM4 x570 and I can install W11. Secure Boot and fTPM are both on, and you can disable the requirement to need either.

Codilingus,

Check out Windows Xlite, they have 10 and 11. Their install iso’s are stripped of all Microsoft’s bullshit.

Codilingus,

Check out Windows Xlite’s windows 11 .iso’s. Post install almost feels like a fresh Win7 install.

New “Recall” feature in Windows 11 is a privacy nightmare (www.theverge.com)

The new “Recall” feature really does look good on paper, but the taking in mind that it catalogues almost everything you do on your computer, it could turn out to be a privacy nightmare. “logging things you do in apps, tracking communications in live meetings, remembering all websites you’ve visited for research, and...

Codilingus,

Probably the same way they’ve done Windows in the past: Enterprise, IoT, LTS/B, and Education versions. All you can do at that point is assume and hope they aren’t lying about telemetry gathered in those variants.

Codilingus,

To me, this reads like it implies that government and govt programs are bad because of the govt employees, but if you were to take those same “corrupt” politicians and put them to work at private companies that they would stop being “corrupt.” Like it is a belief/reaction to one specific bad instance of a large government/program. “The government sucks at program X, so if we get rid of that program, the same general population will gain empathy, morals and efficiency if working for a company to run program X.”

Codilingus,

There’s a multiplayer game that is that exact game mode only. It’s called Spectre, unfortunately it’s early access with “mixed” reviews.

Codilingus,

The game is fun enough and free. My only beef with CoD is I’m not paying them year after year for the same game. Will be nice to have a CoD style game to jump into when a CoD style fps seems fun.

Codilingus,

Lmao, I thought the same thing. IIRC for Android 15, one of the features I read about, was better portrait & landscape support.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

Codilingus,

Tidal on Linux is a crap shoot, which sucks because pipewire is awesome for HiRes music since it can change sample rate on the fly to match a source. Best bet is Firefox and their web player, and using the middle tier “high” that’s blue colored, and letting pipewire play @ 44100

Codilingus,

That runs on chromium, which in Linux is HARD locked to 48000, so every single song will be resampled.

Codilingus,

I’m in the same boat, of needing to still use Windows.

Check out Windows XLite. Its a highly customized iso that gets rid of all the bullshit. No automatic updates (they’re provided as cumulative installers), no windows defender, no edge, no cortana, no store, no Xbox, etc. Those things are all stil available, too. Also, all the telemetry is disabled from registry and gpolicy, and since no auto updates, they won’t mess with those entries to “uh oh we turned on our spying again, and didn’t tell you.”

Its a massive breath of fresh air, feels like going back to XP and 7, when your fresh install has nothing at all. Not even dot.net and vcredist, which are also available.

You shouldn't be able to join a competitive pvp match or start a raid without a working microphone

In games like Destiny or CS:GO for example, you should not even be allowed to start the activity without a working microphone. I dont care if you are antisocial, if that’s the case, those activaties aren’t for you and you shouldn’t bring down your entire team because of that....

Codilingus,

I agree, but I think it would be better if they got their own queue, unknown to them. Game detects in the last 5 ranked matches you didn’t use a mic at all? You get the no mic queue. Everyone who wants to be silent can play amongst themselves.

Codilingus,

Steam only removes games from the store, and doesn’t remove games from anyone’s library. Those affected people, if they didn’t refund, will still have HD2 in their library. There is also never install restrictions/blocking.

Codilingus,

What’s wild to me is they’re making their own overlay for their PC games. Ghost of Tsushima is supposed to be the first release title with it. Do they not understand steam already has an overlay? I feel like 2 overlays would just compete and be obnoxious and possibly ever impact performance.

Also, why? If it is for co-op crossplay, just make linking PSN to Steam optional, and state it is needed for inviting/grouping with any PS5 friends. Then do what every other multiplatform game does and show 2 friends list in the game.

Codilingus,

Multiple displays are always a shit show. Once a year I try out a current distro, and within a week I’m back on Windows. This time was Bazzite, and the exact same problems as always, both Plasma and Gnome, just last week. After all this time windows still don’t remember their size and position, and right click context menus randomly break and show up on the opposite monitor. Go and look up the bugs, and I can see they’ve been a problem for like 5-15 years.

If you give up on Linux for the time being, I HIGHLY recommend looking up Windows Xlite. It is a highly modified Windows 10 or 11 iso. They even have the option to install without Windows Defender, its such a breath of fresh air, almost feels like being back on XP or 7.

Codilingus, (edited )

I DEFINITELY shared that worry, but I found it on an invite only forum that has a track record of clean isos and modded OS’es, and any uploaded files are scanned by multiple anti-malware/viruses. Plus I could see the dude FBConan had a long very active history there. He + someone else used to make Phoenix Lite, but other dude wanted to get greedy, so he ditched him and went solo. Now he just takes donations from Patreon, and makes downloading easy from his own website.

Codilingus,

To be fair, if they were typical RBG mouse and keyboard, and you used the brands software to change their settings, it blocked that software. Those programs were absolute dog shit in terms of security. I have no idea if it forced them to make better software, or Riot just started to allow them. Regardless it’s all pointless because Vanguard has been defeated. Imagine making ring 0 anticheat that loads on boot, and it still isn’t good enough, fucking LoL pun intended.

Codilingus,

Riot’s games can only be played with their own launcher, so no steam. They give a big message about “now installing vanguard, our anticheat,” then inform you to reboot to finish the install, since vanguard is the only ring 0 anticheat that puts itself into the kernel start up, always running.

Codilingus,

Riot’s Vanguard is the only one that needs to start with boot, and always run in the background. Others can initialize and close when the game is done, IIRC. Which is why they can work with proton/wine.

Codilingus,

Their explanation for it makes sense though. They were running into the problem that a player could cheat and progress their games faster, etc. Since HD2 is essentially a MASSIVE, single DnD campaign that every player is a part of, those cheaters would break the campaign progress and ruin it for every single other player.

They also include shortcuts to install and uninstall only the anticheat. So you can remove it immediately once you finish playing.

Codilingus,

If you go to it’s steam install folder: Hell Divers 2 -> tools -> GGSetup.exe and gguninst.exe
