Poignant post on the state of things (lemmy.world)
Anyone else feel that Lemmy just *isn't* addictive?
Or at least less so than Reddit. It’s good, but, I can’t put my finger on it. Even when the content is good, the servers are up, and I’m getting notifications responding to comments, it’s never come to me doomscrolling for hours....
Lemmy is slowly getting better
Just a little rant. When I first visited Lemmy Sites a couple of months ago it felt empty. Besides the really mainstream community pretty much everything else just felt empty....
How do people find good information on the internet these days?
It used to be that you would do a search on a relevant subject and get blog posts, forums posts, and maybe a couple of relevant companies offering the product or service. (And if you wanted more information on said company you could give them a call and actually talk to a real person about said service) You could even trust...

Japan: Can anything be done to stop population decline? (www.dw.com)
The latest numbers on Japanese population make for a dismal reading — the number of people who died in 2022 (1.56 million) was roughly twice as big as the number of newborn children (771,000). Based on residency registrations, the country’s Internal Ministry estimates a total population loss of some 800,000 last year. This...

How do you discover new content?
I love not being bombarded by ads thanks to pihole and adblockers. I don’t have cable TV either. But without browsing netlifx/Hulu/etc. how do you actually find stuff to watch and discover worthwhile shows and movies to rent from my library?

Maintained Openboard FOSS Keyboard Fork (Android) (github.com)
I’ve been using the Openboard keyboard on Android for a while but it seems like the developers have either disappeared, abandoned the project, or are otherwise just MIA/not releasing new versions....

YSK That if you delete your lemmy account, your comments/posts made on other instances will remain there forever.
So say I make an account on lemmy.world and post a bunch of stupid comments around other instances then decide to delete my account because I'm ashamed of them. After I delete my account, a copy of all those comments I made on other instances remain on those instances as a "shadow copy." There isn't any way to actually delete...

Anyone know if Lemmy logs IP?
For instance say I post a guide on how to do something related to piracy...should I be concerned that my IP is being logged? I understand if it is logged it is most likely saved on the instance server I'm posting on. What I'm asking is if I should be constantly using a VPN while browsing or posting on instances?
