Maybe someone could make one that relies on Web scraping instead of API usage, something similar to NewPipe for YouTube but for Reddit. Might be a while though, web scraping isn't as intuitive as API and not offense but Devs are still a bit spoiled from having unrestricted API usage since forever.

Also before other people try and tell me I am aware that you can use Personal API keys from your account, however they might crack down on that in the future and either prevent people from using it or impose more strict limitations on its usage (if everyone just gets a personal API key instead of paying they're probably not going to take it laying down).

I would say yes, Furry just means anthropomorphic animals so birds do count as "furry". Though specifically they're usually referred to as Avians.

and should not have the capability of overriding what they and their userbase want to do.

I disagree, the whole point of Federation is to not fracture user-bases across platforms and if you don't like it, then don't join the Fediverse. Want a heavily moderated platform where for whiny b*tches where you must always agree? Make something that isn't federated (I won't mention the ones I know of because I don't want to support them, but plenty of platforms decided to do this). Federation is about connectedness, that means people are going to disagree. Defederating hurts users by doing the thing that federated services is supposed to prevent, causing fragmentation.

I would disagree with that analogy, de-federation is a form of censorship because of the affects it has on registered users. It prevents users from accessing resources if they are on Beehaw. That analogy only works if Beehaw users could still interact with the de-federated communities but they are prevented from doing that.

Sure they can make a new account but the whole idea of Fediverse was to not have to make 20 accounts for different services, so if you signed up to Beehaw you are effectively censored and you'll need to make a new account.

So it very much is censorship, maybe not for us outside of Beehaw but certainly for the ones in Beehaw.

Maybe there should be a test to see if the other instance is responsive and if it isn't display a de-federated warning banner and maybe highlight the usernames from that instance in Red to show that they're not available from this current instance.

It's too bad that Reddit is going to Run itself into the floor. Hopefully more people will come here since Fediverse platforms will likely be much more stable in the long run compared to centralized platforms which will ultimately try to monetize themselves with the same lack of care and restraint that's ultimately driving Reddit into the floor right now.

And also don't like being discounted as "Noise" when they speak out against poor treatment.

Honestly I don't think Steve Huffman ever really understood what being human is like. He basically was in it for the money from the beginning, Aaron Swartz was the one there who cared about people and about freedom, may he rest in peace.

I actually know the preferred names of quite a few of my furry friends, I think that counts right?

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman's letter to Reddit employees in response to blackout

Starting last night, about a thousand subreddits have gone private. We do anticipate many of them will come back by Wednesday, as many have said as much. While we knew this was coming, it is a challenge nevertheless and we have our work cut out for us. A number of Snoos have been working around the clock, adapting to...

Yeah many people don't really realize just how bad it is when moderators leave, especially for a platform like Reddit where the mods are unpaid volunteers. On a different platform where they pay moderators they could just hire new ones, but with Reddit currently hemorrhaging money they are very much not going to be able to hire brand new moderators for every mainline sub.

Plus you have to account for the fact that while there are people who might be able to take their place now that number will quickly diminish I say become swamped with work and lack the proper tools to do decent moderation. It does not bode well for Reddit's future.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I think Lemmy will definitely be able to serve as a suitable replacement for Reddit, the wacky Reddit comments everyone knows and loves won't die out with Reddit, they'll live on here on Lemmy.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

In my experience there's just something about Reddit and many Online forums that just tends to bring out the worst in people.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I think there's more to it because there are people on Reddit who act like assholes on Reddit but in real life you'd never know since they seem like nice people.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I think there's a project that allows for apps using Reddit API calls to interract with Lemmy just by changing the URL in the app. Maybe something like that would be useful in making it easier to convert Sync to working on Lemmy instead of Reddit, well that and other minor changes to accommodate Federated features.

[SFW] Good Bean Coffee by Mossrats (human->anthro fox) (pawb.social)

It's not often I find myself in my human form these days, and the universe seems to see fit that it's kept that way. I was trying out a new brew from a local place called Good Bean Coffee Co, when suddenly fur exploded across my body and I lost another pair of jeans to a growing tail! But worst of all, I spilled my coffee!...

Aww this is so cute, he's so fluffy, I see no downsides to this.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

People are going to hate me for this but I'll miss the furry subreddits like r/furry and r/furryartschool, there's a lot of cute and wholesome art posted there.

Also going to miss r/AromanticAsexual that was a good support community to discuss aspects of being aromantic-asexual and the hardships that come with it.

I'm really hoping that they'll eventually come here to Lemmy.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

I have hope that the Linux communities will come here soon, unfortunately we'll probably be waiting a bit for the Big game communities to come here. Hopefully the Blackout will help inspire popularity and growth of Lemmy as an Open Platform.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Awesome, I just subscribed. Hopefully they'll get some more activity in the near future.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Absolutely, will do.

With reddit going down the drain, now's the time to act to help build better furry communities. Let's build a space we can call home <3 (art by Geekidog) (yiffit.net)

We've gotten over 100 sign-ups since launch, which is a massively good start, especially considering that everyone in the lemmyverse can subscribe to our communities and participate....

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Couldn’t agree more, also for the future despite all their problems it would probably be better to set them up on Federated services. Non Federated ones like Tildes seem to have the same problem Reddit has when it comes to Management and infrastructure.
