Which doesn’t make sense. Therefore my confusion.

There are people who do not identify as having a gender, this is commonly referred to as “Agender”. People who identify as Agender may not identify with the concept of gender, some may attempt to present gender neutral, while others may not make an effort to present any specific way. It’s one of the many NonBinary identities, that is people who don’t identify as exclusively male or female. I can understand though that for some it might be confusing as it has only been receiving mainstream recognition relatively recently.

Also pronouns aren’t necessarily dependent on gender, they’re dependent on the person’s pronoun preferences. Even someone who seems like they might use a specific set of pronouns based on their gender might use a different set of pronouns, as an example I knew someone who is a demiboy and they go by any pronouns.

That is too bad, but also at the same time I kind of lost hope for Gitlab after they jumped on the AI hype train, if they’re going full corporate they probably wouldn’t be a good candidate for Federation (both because other people would defederate them and because they wouldn’t want to because competition).

I think they’re trying to argue that transgender women aren’t real women and that respecting them and allowing them to use spaces that align with their gender identity is endangering women.

That’s how their comment reads to me, the way they dismissed the meme gives off those vibes.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah this meme as well as the original bear one were meant to be divisive and make people angry. That’s the point of these kinds of memes, they’re not really meant to be intelligent, they’re meant to stir up drama and make people fight.

Apple crushes creativity and its reputation in new iPad ad (www.theregister.com)

The ad itself depicted a mechanical crusher destroying artifacts of human creativity. A trumpet, guitar, sculpture, piano, drawing board, paints, a metronome, several analog cameras, a turntable, and hi-fi equipment were among the much-loved items yielding to the machine’s unstoppable force.

Where did you get the idea that Oracle can see their source code? That only applies if they host their source repository on Oracle, if they host the servers there chances are it’s binaries that are hosted on the server not the source code.

Draconic_NEO,
@Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I don’t think this person knows what they’re talking about, they must either think ByteDance is hosting the source code on Oracle’s servers or they somehow think that binaries are the same as source code 🤷

They usually run Older Windows or MSDOS too, definitely not their own OS category.

    Mastodon.social had a whole thing a while back where they had NDA meetings with Facebook in regards to threads federation.

    It’s later come out that they are censoring Palestine content on their platform.

    So yeah people who often push for Federation with bad actors like Facebook are very often bad actors themselves.

    Thankfully Lemmy.world hasn’t been pushing any pro-Israel content, or censoring Palestine support, at least not yet (hopefully never).

    It’s not really that fundamentally different from the idea of Lemmy, the interface is just different but the idea of having communities and posts in the communities is the same.

    The thing that would be tricky and would probably have the most friction would be anonymous posting since that’s where things get really ugly regarding moderation and user conduct, since a good amount are just going to be spammers and many others will be trolls and malicious users.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    I agree, peer tube’s biggest issues so far besides the storage or the fact that there are almost no peer tube servers which offer user accounts (which isn’t needed explicitly to watch videos but makes the experience much better), and also the fact that there aren’t really any good apps to use it with that aren’t outdated or abandoned.

    Forgejo having Federation enabled would be great since it would allow people with Codeberg accounts to contribute in self-hosted repos without having to apply or beg for accounts on them just to submit issues and pulls.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Yeah that would be very difficult to implement safely, and probably wouldn’t be worth the effort since the Federated model means that signing up for an account somewhere on the Fediverse is much easier already.

    Anonymous posting might have been a necessary evil on the early internet before you had all these Federated servers, but nowadays having other servers fills the role of granting easier access since you can sign up to another one where that process may be easier.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    I don’t think that would really work since in order to make it anonymous it would need to be hidden from the other servers as well which would cause issues with moderation since if it’s never dealt with On the origin server a person could cause a lot of trouble with it, yeah you could have so that it would only be visible by moderators and admins but that also doesn’t really work if admins can view it since anyone can set up a server.

    I don’t think that really makes sense because revenge porn is technically porn and it’s not consensual.

    So I would disagree calling something porn doesn’t imply consent, it merely describes sexually explicit material.

    You’re not wrong, lots of people on Lemmy.world just really kiss up to fairphone because of their perceived betterness in other ways. Just because they claim to be doing some things better doesn’t mean they aren’t doing anything wrong or scummy.

    Also I bet there’s quite a few apple fanboys here who support copying apple in removing features, for some strange reason.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    People will deny this but this is the only real reason for doing that. The other reason is copying apple, which isn’t really another reason as apple removed it for the first reason. Fairphone just went the extra mile to claim that headphones are wasteful, in essence they’re making an excuse to cover up their reason why and also trying to force others to do it as well.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Probably but they certainly don’t want you to know that and almost certainly will say that you can’t.

    Regarding sublinks and feeling concerned about what is going on with it (lemmy.world)

    Right now, I’m feeling concerned and wondering what is going on in regards to Sublinks here, since I have created a community for discussion on koalas about a week ago on here and have started and been doing work on it recently. But now I’m hearing about Sublinks and feeling concerned if I created it on the wrong instance or...

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    FYI Sublinks is a drop-in replacement for Lemmy, it’s fully compatible with the API and database structure, so it can simply be swapped out and aside from UI differences it’ll work Basically the same, it could even be used with the Lemmy-UI in which case there would basically be no difference in appearance and function.

    Also due to the nature of Federated services as long as everything still speaks the same protocol it doesn’t matter that much the software each server uses. The community will still be accessible on those services.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    People are going to try to make up reasons, all of them are an excuse to cover up the real reason which is copying apple and forcing people into Bluetooth to sell more expensive tech junk to people. The original and really only reason.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    That’s it, right there. Artificial exclusivity, that’s what it always was anything else is an excuse to look or seem better or less scummy.

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    Two people listening at once, or DJing. It is very gimmicky but has its uses

    Draconic_NEO,
    @Draconic_NEO@lemmy.world avatar

    The fact that people still defend removal of headphone jacks just goes to show how brainwashed they are.
