foss physical button recommendations

Hi. I’m new to HA, and am looking for physical button recommendations. I got tasmota smart plugs, and those just needed HA’s mqtt add-on and tasmota integration. They work like a charm. Now I want to get a physical button (wired or battery) that I can use to toggle the smart switches. I also would like to do this in the most...

Nock-nock seems to do this. Trying now

Edit: it works great

Edit: Nock-nock has a few too many false positives for me. Website monitor seems to be better.

Dust0741,

Nice! Thanks so much!

Dust0741,

Agreed. However, iMessage is better than sms. And I am trying my best to remove sms from my life

Dust0741,

Again agreed, however some people either won’t switch, or it would be more convenient to just use iMessage

Dust0741,

Hmmm how is Beeper? Isn’t it run on someone’s Mac instead of your own? Is it FOSS?

Dust0741,

More of my stats:

Fennec (privacy badger + unlock origin): 1 in 23301.0

Fennec private tab (privacy badger + unlock origin): 1 in 20712.44

Firefox hardened (arkenfox + privacy badger + unlock origin): 1 in 37281.6

Firefox hardened private tab(arkenfox + privacy badger + unlock origin): 1 in 31069.5

Mullvan browser (dafaults with unlock): 1 in 147.48

Dust0741,

Wow yea this seems really good. And scary. Too bad it doesn’t seem to work with mullvad browser

Dust0741,

Better yet, pi-hole

Dust0741,

Agreed. I used NextDNS to get started. Its absolutely amazing for that. After that I wanted more, so have gone the Pi-Hole+VPN route and am not going back.

Dust0741,

I have yet to run into a situation where I am unable to use the VPN back home.

Do you have a situation that this would happen in?

Dust0741,

Yes exactly. One day I’ll get a VPS and mess around with it but for now owning the hardware is cheaper and easier.

Dust0741,

Fair enough. I’ve had success with it though. I should probably just use the official wireguard not wg-easy

Dust0741,

I guess I’m not 100% sure. Which would I need/which would increase security?

Dust0741,

Ah gotcha. Makes sense. Would something like WatchYourLAN or Pi.Alert be good?

Dust0741,

Yea I think intrusion detection is what I want. I’ll have a look at that page, but I may end up just going with pfsense one day.

Dust0741,

Okay this seems neat. Would this be usable for a home network?

Fresh install with Gnome, disconnecting form internet after time.

I have a debian box physically in another location, and would like it to stay online. I put a fresh install on it, including gnome, then rebooted it without a display attached, with the plan to ssh into it later. After about 20 minutes, it disappears from my router page (via vpn, all other devices are still connected) I turned...

Dust0741,

I figured the “@telegram” meant your @ on telegram, like @Dust0741 or something. No the channel isn’t called chanell-1, I guess I don’t know what a channel is

Dust0741,

Figured it out! I used @rawdatabot and got my account’s ID and replaced channel-1 with it

Edit: also I left the @telegram alone
