Some years back my dad gave me a pair of vintage (1970s) Ohm L speakers that his dad originally gave him. I haven’t been able to listen to them because the foam/rubber around the woofers has entirely disintegrated.

I... I had no idea you could just... replace the foam.

Tbf, my dad thought the woofers were entirely shot, but at this point I don't think he knows what he's talking about.

I'll call a local shop tomorrow for a quote. If it's pricy I'm willing to give the $27 DIY kit a shot.

Mazda Iconic SP concept just debuted

Only 3,197 pounds! Hybrid-rotary setup with twin-rotors makes 364hp.

Doesn’t look like the car has a stick. 🤷‍♂️

Just found out that there is an extended directors cut of Almost Famous. Gonna bug Jayden all day to watch it with me.

Doing some homework for my gen-ed art appreciation class and I felt quite inspired. Would love to hear y’all’s thoughts about ✨art✨ as a concept.

(My writing style is somewhat casual for this class)

@John
Meant to ask but I haven’t been as active on Masto for the last few days. How’d you weather the storm?

Gonna get ahead of the game and start a research paper early. It’s for my “History Since 1945” class and the professor is very lax about the topic. Basically as lax as possible, in a good way. He said that we can write about literally anything since 1945. Doesn’t even have to involve international events or geopolitics.

I’m between two topics:
>The US government’s overt efforts to promote the arts overseas as a form of Western influence on other countries
>The history of the Miata

I saw the in totality! It was one of the most arresting things I’ve ever seen.

There was a small crowd at the park we settled down in. As the sun faded, people began to applaud. That quickly erupted into a roar of shouts & cries of excitement as the sun transitioned to totality. Beyond special.

I’m HYPED about how my photos came out.

More thoughts and photos to come.

Thanks to a heads up from @Mark I’m going to MiataCon at Lime Rock Park in CT. I’m just gonna hang out at the car corral this year, chat with some other fanatics, and watch the races. Hoping to try a HPDE next year if I don’t give it a shot sometime sooner.

Closest I’ve come to a Miata event was Miatas at the Gap (Tail of the Dragon)… but I couldn’t actually make it in time for the weekend’s events. Luckily I did get to meet & hang out with two Miataheads who were about my age.

:miata: :nd:

This guy pulls up next to you at a light. How terrified are you?

Slammed my finger in the car door last night. Mother effer it hurts. I’d bet the nail’s gonna fall off.

My immediate thought as it happened was “I can’t believe I just did that.”

Welp. My stepdad’s BMW 335i is totaled.

My stepbrother drove it into a deep puddle…

I finally gave GPT’s image analysis mode a try and I’m impressed.

I have a paper coming up in my art class in which we have to analyze a work of art by a local artist — so that there’s nothing written about the work online. It’d be pretty easy to “analyze” Starry Night.

Dropped one of the local artworks into GPT and asked for an analysis based on the elements & principles of art. Results in attached images.

I made a silly purchase that I’ve wanted for a long time: A GameBoy Camera and GB Printer. I wanna try getting the most out of this camera that I can — ya know, working within artistic restrictions and all that. Seems like a fun project.

I also ordered the Epilogue GB Operator, which is a device that accepts GameBoy cartridges and allows playback/management on a computer. Most interesting to me is that you can extract GameBoy Camera photos and save them to your computer.

Kind of a bummer day. My step-dad’s BMW 335i was totaled and a tow is coming today to pick it up. It was the first convertible and first RWD car that I got any significant seat-time in.

So sad to see a twin-turbo straight six die.

My NY registration is expired. Considering vanity plates for the Miata, but only if I come across something straight-up funny or in the dry humor department.

Any ideas?

Looking through my photo library and came across one of my favorite sculptures at The Met.

Lilith (Kiki Smith, 1994)

Made of bronze and striking glass blue eyes, the sculpture highlights an inner humanity and desire for agency. The artwork’s positioning on the wall shows a defensive position, though the figure’s crouch suggests they might spring into action at any moment. The figure seems to be hardened by the world, while still retaining its humanity.

was a blast! Shoulda showed up a bit earlier to do the parade laps, but time wasn’t on our side today.

Got to meet @Mark in person and for some reason we didn’t get a selfie together.

Jay and I were rushing to catch a train today. Got lucky and caught almost every green light on the way to the station. Parked real quick and ran to the platform.

Two-thirds of the way up the stairs I remembered my phone was still in my car. The train was already pulling in so I went into a full sprint back to my car.

I grabbed my phone and when I was about four strides from the car, my legs had total muscle failure and went full ragdoll on me. Collapsed and skidded on my elbow & knee. Ouch.

Gotta say, not having the Miata has been bumming me out a lot. The shitty rental car adds insult to injury.

I got a little bit of news about my car today and it seems like everything's repairable -- no frame damage. That's a huge relief. Gonna call the shop tomorrow to see what they think the repair timeline's gonna look like.

Got a good bit of motivation from Mad Men today:
