@actuallyautistic @lifewithtrees @actuallyadhd I think NTs just want you to have ANY answer, because they think being stagnant means going backward. Means you’re a lazy drug addict waste of space. If you’re not constantly moving forward, you’re falling behind. . If asked at a job, talk about being promoted twice and acquiring new business management skills. Just have answers that sound good, no one expects you follow through on them.

@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic They code-switch between formal and familiar settings and different cultures, but I think their core understanding and presentation of themselves is more consistent. They don’t drop it ALL once they get off the phone or are in a room by themselves, just that added layer of presentation.

There are so many connections between languages! I love it. GELATO is Italian for a specific Italian ice creamy frozen milk dessert. HELADO is Spanish for ice cream. CONGELAR in Spanish means to congeal, freeze. That's the same word. y'all. Latin roots. I never saw the connection until I was having a spoonful of gelato tonight. Delicious. Wishing you many new word connections in the new year.

Like, what's the difference between a mask and a public persona?

Both my parents are pretty autistic and in total denial about it. Lacking siblings, cousins, a culture, or human contact, I really have no frame of reference for this stuff.

When I close the door behind me into an empty room and sigh and drop my posture, when I hang up a phone and then scream to let out all i’d been feeling but holding back, when I turn away from everyone and drop the smile I’ve been putting on. Harder to realize when I start masking, I’ve been doing it all my life.

@actuallyautistic @theautisticcoach HATE showering, but found through personal data collection in 2020 that if I go for longer than 60 hours (2.5 days), I always feel bad as I step in. Having that external deadline helps move me, but I still skip it sometimes. Also, having important pills to take at night gives me an anchor to do other night tasks like teeth stuff and removing makeup. Mornings are still chaos though. Thanks for asking.

There's a line in the show I'm working on that would 100% benefit from some harsh swearing.

I totally can't do it because Grammar Girl's brand is family friendly — people listen in their cars with their kids, and it's used in schools — but I'm laughing at the thought of making it the "directors cut" on YouTube.

@actuallyautistic @theautisticcoach @actuallyautistics I’ll immediately flee, or tell someone I trust that I’m having a hard time so they have context if I meltdown or quickly leave. To stay, I’ll find somewhere quiet (coat room) and listen to music I like/hum for a bit. I wish there were standard quiet reset rooms and not just stinky bathrooms most places.
