Gute Nacht, Freunde.

Today is a public holiday in Germany, so I enjoyed a quiet morning while everyone else was sleeping in.

Played Valheim. (Of course.)

Attended a webinar about writing blurbs and reworked the one for Sun (really must order the cover now).

Ran quite a headache today, so I'm turning in now without any other writing. Still, a pretty good day.

Finished reading "One storm too many" yesterday.

Very good. Very scary visions... but becoming reality, unfortunately.

309 — How is your MC or SC with animals?

Sun hasn't had a chance to find out yet.

No pets in his House. No pets while on the run - he does ride a mule for a couple of days and tries to take care of it.

He is a gentle person, though, quite caring if there is space for it, and I know he'll be good with the pet he actually ends up with.

Guten Morgen!

Fun thing happened this morning.

It's quiet outside. City is still asleep, clearly. I'm up early, sitting on the balcony, enjoying birdsong and the scream of seagulls.

It's very peaceful, except for a ship tooting its horn every few minutes out in the fjord. I don't mind, it's kind of cool.

Very sleepy, very grumpy noise from next door: "Hey. It's a public holiday, could you quit that?!"

Firlefanz,

@mezz

It made me laugh. Quietly. 😂

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

Today, I proofread 20 pages, took good care of myself, even cooked a meal.

No writing, alas. No brain space for it. But I have a long weekend now, and I hope I can finally dig into Sun and finish his story.

Of course, there's Valheim. Need to get back into the Swamp, after avoiding that for a while. (It's so dark and icky there.) Saw my first sea serpent and got it killed by a troll. Hah!

Life is good.

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@JamesK

Well. I have some very simple recipes that just require putting things into a bowl and microwaving that.

Yesterday, it was rice with asparagus. Yummy. (And my Autistic brain loves how little effort this is.) I still call it "cooking".

And Valheim...

I am so freaking proud of my new base. It's really lovely and I had so much fun building it.

This game has such potential for creativity. The building blocks are much like Lego, really. And playing it helps me gain more confidence with problem solving, project management and tenaciousness. Never thought I'd get that much out of a simple game.

Have a look at my base. No, it's not perfect, but it's mine, as they say.

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@paul

It is not "simple" at all.

There are so many aspects to it - gathering materials, making food, building houses, and eventually defeating monsters that it really takes a lot of planning to succeed.

Which suits my strange brain just fine!

And if you really just want to focus on building awesome houses, there is a server setting that gives you free material! (But I'm not using it, that feels too much like cheating.)

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

It is!

I do want to tackle a bridge next. Or maybe two.

I just wish I had a good way of doing a coop. I have one but my friend doesn't have a lot of time to play so I solo the world the pic is from.

(I play through Steam.)

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

Yeah, that'll be a challenge in our communal world. Fortunately, my friend has more experience. (Thanks for the tip with core wood. I have plenty of that, thanks to the Elder fight and the occasional troll.)

I want to start with a small bridge that's more for decoration than actual need.

The fun part is taking inspiration from ancient architecture. (I'm thinking Roman aqueducts for bridges.)

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

Would iron wood help with that? Or stone? (I wouldn't know, I'm just starting to learn how to survive in the Swamp.)

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

Big fences, yes to that!

For that fight, I plan to find either a nicely-placed tower in the Black Forest or even pick a spot for another nice base in the Meadows - portals are such a huge help!

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

That looks AWESOME!

Oh, wow. That gives me so many ideas.

So far, my docks are much simpler - but I put roofs over everything to keep the wood from decaying.

I use a "traveling portal". One end is at my "portal central" where are portals are, and I carry the material on me when I go exploring. At nightfall, I pop up the portal and go home to sleep in my bed. Such luxury!

Sometimes, I make a temp base around such a portal.

(Portal Central, except there are many more now:)

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

I put a LOT of thought into that and ended up building it near the spawn point/altar where you go to switch out your powers.

I thought it would be handy to have it there. It's also where I keep my cartography table. But then, I built a small base there early in the game. By now, it has a dormitory and a workshop house. I may rebuild completely in stone one day.

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

Ooooooh! dreams

I do have a tiny Black Forest island in my world - and guess what?

It's inhabited by a troll. 😂 😂 😂 😬

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

Yeah...

But that lone island has some appeal - events would be difficult for the monsters there...

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

I put my server to "easy", which means fewer raids and easier combat. I thought that fair for a solo-player.

Firlefanz,
@Firlefanz@writing.exchange avatar

@mezz

Main (in the mutual game) had two raids in a row where four trolls descended on our base each time. Fortunately, I could lure them away (and kill two each time).

In one raid, they destroyed one portal (not difficult to fix, fortunately), in the other raid, they smashed in one wall of our house. (Wood.)

It's so fair that we don't lose materials when things get smashed.

308 — What is one place your characters want to visit?

The world of the Winds and Pillars does not work that way.

All my MCs want is to get away from the Sacred Square and out of the Holy Empire. Everything else is secondary.

Something, or rather, someone a few of my characters want to see is South - because of a famous battle she was in. But that's it.

The first book in the Winds and Pillars series, South Breaks, is free in all stores.

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

A really good day.

Survived a dental appointment (wasn't bad), ran errands, edited 20 pages for a friend - and played a lot of Valheim.

I was rather frustrated with Twink when she couldn't find another crypt for iron ore. Hopped onto another continent, and voilá, two new crypts. Am still scraping iron out of the first one, it's HUGE. This feels like great progress.

Nothing for Sun. I will get there!

#WritersCoffeeClub 5/7: Do you add a copyright statement to your work? How comprehensive is it?

Of course, I do when I publish a book. Indicating copyright is part of the German law for publication, and it affects me as a German citizen.

For my English-language books, I use US terminology - that's what people are familiar and comfortable with.

For all the good it does, I just want to follow the law. Copyright has never stopped any pirates...

#PennedPossibilities 307 — Does your MC have next-door neighbors? Who are they?

At the beginning of the book, Sun does have neighbors - all the other Houses in the Sacred Square. Not that he gets to see them or speak to them.

Then he falls off his pyramid, and any thoughts of neighbors vanish. He just needs to survive.

When the time comes to consider neighbors again, he's in a very different place.

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

I spent a good deal of today practicing project management in a game environment.

That's my take on it, and I'm sticking to that.

(Yes, it was Valheim.)

I found a solution to a big problem, and killed the nasty monster after a few tries. Well worth all the effort.

No writing. But Writer Brain is nibbling around Sun and the Prequel to the series. Still letting go of stress over the state of the world.

1/5 Got tagged by @madikonrad over at Tumblr for the 'Questions For Your OC'!! – answer 3 questions as your main OC(s) – since we’re , we can write this as a narrative, first-person, or RPG style - anyway we wish.

When done, provide 3 new questions to pass on to the next creator. (you then tag others with 3 new questions)

My main OC’s are Aedan the Ancalite and Lucius Scipio Servius, and the following questions are from sapphic author, Madeline Konrad.

@anderlandbooks

Not good about tagging others, but I wanted to answer the questions, at least.

  1. Favorite character?
    That's hard. I love so many of them. Maybe West, though. He is especially dear to my heart because of Onyx. So much fun to write.

  2. Ebook. Hands down - my Kindle is so much easier on my hands.

  3. Fantasy.
    Especially with some romance - I'm reading a lot of gay romance because the partners are equals in those. I so miss that in straight romance.
