I don’t think they have an aim beyond “don’t do anything the Dems or the moderate Republicans want.”

Final, huh? Let’s see them have a pilot season without writers. Good luck.

Jesus and His Gang on a Hot Day - "Foolbert Sturgeon" aka Frank Stack - 1964 (lemmy.world)

Frank Stack is probably most well-known today for illustrating much of Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor and Pekar and his wife Joyce Brabner’s graphic novel Our Cancer Year. He has been a cartoonist in the underground scene for decades, ever since he befriended the much more well-known Gilbert Shleton (creator of The...

I have two TVs. One is an small 720p set we keep in the bedroom with a connected Chromecast, and the other is a 1080p “smart” TV, but they made the mistake of building a Chromecast into it, so we literally never use the “smart” features and just cast from a phone or computer.

I don’t care if that’s “low resolution.” I grew up with CRT TVs. 1080p is terrific as far as I’m concerned.

But it doesn’t rely on any sort of cloud services, so unlike the guy in the article’s problems, you don’t have that if Google decides you’re an undesirable. Your Chromecast will continue to function. It’s rare for a device these days.

They remind me of Mae Martin, who identifies as a ‘they.’

Yes, they were great on that and they also have a really funny Netflix standup special!

New Jersey governor calls on Sen. Menendez, a fellow Democrat, to resign (www.cnn.com)

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and other top Garden State Democrats are calling on Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez to resign – a sign of how quickly the senator’s political support may erode after Friday’s shocking indictment on federal bribery charges....

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I realize this is a high bar these days, but if a senator can be bought, they shouldn’t be in the senate. And that should be a low bar.

No, as in Hotel Balmoral of Karuizawa. Hard to read, I know.

The future is dangerous, but the past is depressing and it’s too tiring to live in the now.

2 weeks? I get 1 week. And if I want to split that up, too bad. It has to be 40 concurrent hours.

I have met very, very few reasonable libertarians. So I don’t blame them.

Due to a serious illness, I’ve used up all my paid sick days. My bosses told me, “we want you to get better, so you can take as many unpaid sick days as you want.” Thanks a whole fucking lot.

There are more options than “be a wage slave who has been so beaten down by the system that they have nothing left in their lives” and “be a hunter-gatherer hunted by lions.”

Joe Biden Is About to Go Where No President Has Gone Before (www.motherjones.com)

On September 15, the United Auto Workers began a targeted strike against Ford, GM, and Stellantis (the conglomerate that includes Chrysler) in an effort to secure higher wages, a four-day work week, and other protections in the union’s next contract. The strike is a huge development for American workers, but it’s also a big...

Joe Biden was a big fan of working on muscle cars when he was younger (even though he also loved public transportation). I think he can definitely appreciate the skill it takes to build a car, so I’m glad he’s doing this.

Yes, he didn’t do the right thing with the rail workers union- and yes, I know things were negotiated afterward, but it was the wrong way to go about it- but let’s not let the perfect be the enemy of the good and acknowledge that he’s doing the right thing this time, which is better than taking the side of the auto companies like the Republicans are.

Every time there’s a mass shooting, Republicans say, “guns aren’t the problem, mental health is” and then they want to do absolutely nothing about it.

The only conclusion you can make is that they like mentally ill people who torture and murder.

I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app.

I have recently started a new position and am required to use an app that has three Facebook trackers, one of them being a Facebook location tracker according to Exodus App Privacy in order to get your food when it would literally work perfectly fine ordering to a real cashier or shit even a website rather than having to...

FlyingSquid,

I had to download an app to pay a bill recently. What the fuck is that about?

yank tanks

I love it. I’d use it here in the U.S. but no one calls each other Yanks internally.

My wife has a Toyota Rav4 SUV. I don’t love SUVs, but I do admit it’s been really useful for hauling stuff and it is 4WD so it’s much safer in the winter than my smaller Prius.

Now I like tiny cars. My Prius is too big for my comfort level a lot of the time. My dream car is an electrified Nash Metropolitan. But I do have to admit having an SUV has been useful, and with a family of 3, we can still all go to my daughter’s friend’s house and pick her up and take her to breakfast without having a monster-sized pickup truck.

I don’t know if it’s still possible, but (I think) the Lowes chain of hardware stores had rentable pickup trucks. That should be more common. Maybe it would encourage fewer purchase of pickup trucks.

FlyingSquid,

I remember last time I was in London (in the '00s), the streets are so narrow that the bus couldn’t get up the hill to the house where I was saying because too many cars were parked on the road and it wouldn’t fit. So I imagine SUVs in London are a nightmare.

And this wasn’t even central London, this was Harrow.

I think we need something else. What about Patriot Panzers?

FlyingSquid,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Stalin was a big fan of genocide, especially in Ukraine. He also deported all the Jews to Siberia and created a “Jewish Oblast” in the middle of nowhere, the only place Soviet Jews were allowed to live unless they were extremely useful.

What a colossal bastard. His only benefit was he fought Hitler.

I don’t know if it would have change anything, but it did violate a legal right for a spurious reason and that is an injustice regardless of her sentence.
