I can’t believe Apple still doesn’t let me buy a macOS app on iOS or an iOS/iPadOS app on macOS. I learn about an iPad app while using my mac plenty of times and might not want to turn on my iPad to switch to it to get the app.

I might be out and about on my iPhone and learn about a macOS app I want to get - no can do?!

There isn’t even a cross-app-store wishlist I can add it to. I have to actually mail a link to the app page to myself and try to remember to buy it - so primative!

@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad since I often want to investigate more before buying - this doesn’t bother me at all.

I put links like this (and a lot more) in a iCloud text document via iAWriter on iOS then use TextEdit on Mac.

Notes does a good job of this too. I’m very glad both of these work across a huge range of OS’s.

@GeekAndDad This is especially problematic for me when I spot a limited time sale or promo codes being offered. If I'm on the wrong device I can't take advantage of it.

notice it wasn’t “yesterday”… there’s still time to slide backwards 😜

@GeekAndDad@mastodon.social avatar

@schwa does the F2 have a film advance override button? Lets you wind the film advance so you can press the shutter again but it disengages the sprockets so the film doesn’t advance. Allows doing double exposures which can be fun :) (see linked post).

Just another play item for your film camera fun. https://indieweb.social/@alwirtes/109337175618649191

Definitely some astro tech bro attitude:

"Up until now, there's only been, you know, one group that would ever touch Hubble. And I think that they have an opinion of whether — of who should or shouldn't be allowed to touch it," Isaacman said. "I think a lot would say, 'I'd rather it burn up' than, you know, go down a slippery slope of, you know, the space community growing. So I think that's a factor now, unfortunately."

Getting desperate to stop Birdbrain from molesting my truck (nearly two months now!).

Cardboard box and mirror trap on top of a blue truck.

@schwa ACME Corp live bird trap for Birdbrain Robin that keeps attacking its reflection in my truck 🤬

Hanging mirror will hopefully get its impact, pull the fishing line that will pull out the stick and drop the weighted box down on top of it. Then I’ll drive it many miles away to a large park and release this menace.

@dxzdb Mac Classic whose case was reassembled incorrectly by someone and the floppy drive isn’t aligned with the a lot; it also needs the analog board recapped (motherboard already was by the guy I bought it from).

And an SE/30 that’s been sitting in our basement for 10 years and in our barn before that for 10+ years. Solid chance it’s in really bad shape, unfortunately. Courage I need to muster to open it and face the reality, sad though it may be.

@GeekAndDad Best of luck!

I've also got a Plus without a mouse that someone gave me. I need to start recycling some of these old Macs. Not sure if I'll brave eBay again.

Is there a metronome app for Apple Watch that keeps working when the screen sleeps? Pulse looks good but doesn’t keep going when my arm goes down. Even turning the “screen to always on” doesn’t work (Pulse doesn’t appear in the list of apps to show so maybe it’s just too old to work right?)

GeekAndDad,
@GeekAndDad@mastodon.social avatar

@dxzdb This was on an AppleWatch that it stopped. I think the other one I had keeps going on my phone

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad sorry - I missed that watch bit. Apple doesn’t let much keep going on the watch.

Wife made coconut macaroons - half with melted chocolate drizzled on top - mighty tasty!

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad mmm 😋

I just found out via another recipe that toasting coconut - by itself - makes a great snack. Mixing it with a few chocolate chips and maybe some walnuts and it was like an instant bar cookie with very little work.

The product manager who approved this should probably go to the nearest chalk/white board and spend the next 4 hours writing “AI stands for Artificial Idiot” over and over. https://eworld.social/@ismh/112320590656353986

@dxzdb I’m not positive, but I think those are put in on the back side of the wood piece and so you can just hammer them into a hole that’s the size of the shaft (much faster!). Rivnuts and plusnuts are for metal but specifically when you only have access to the front of the panel.

I think the prongs on the t-nut are just to keep it from spinning once installed and a bolt is being tightened into it whereas the folded over tabs on the plusnut are what keeps it from pulling out.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad Ah right - bashing on something with a hammer would be very quick 😆🔨

Thanks for the rivet technology lesson. I'll stick to pop-rivets.

“I circled right back to where I had begun, to the question of beauty.
Back to the questions that science does not ask, not because they aren't important, but because science as a way of knowing is too narrow for the task. (1/3)

Not easy to read at times, despite being very well written, because it articulates and illuminates a worldview western white culture is not well in tune with. But very powerful if you can let go and open yourself to thinking and seeing in new ways, and learning. As we face the reality that our disconnect with nature has wrought this thinking and seeing and learning seems important. (3/3)

Yay - inspector approved my hot water heater replacement install!
He was uncomfortable about one thing: the temp & pressure release valve not being plumbed to outdoors or directly to a drain. There are no drains nearby to plumb it too. The only near exterior wall is 10 feet below ground.
I’d read the code and it seemed like this was ok because concrete floor + a drain in the floor, but the distance to it made him uncomfortable.

He decided to let it go. <whew!>
