Alien/Aliens is a given for most people. I have been watching Event Horizon during the spooky season for years. What are some of your favorite books and movies with a horror/psychological thriller lean?
I haven’t seen anyone mention it but The Man From Earth is fantastic. It’s literally just about a guy saying goodbye to his friends and telling an unbelievable story. There aren’t any flashbacks or visuals illustrating the story. Just him talking and their reactions but it’s so well written that it really draws you in.
Granted it’s not horror but more people should see this gem
In China, you can’t exist without a smartphone, because for all existential things you have to do (paying bills, buying tickets etc.) , you are forced to use the almighty wechat app. Smartphones are a tool to manipulate and to spy on the population. It is a tool utilized by the ruling class, to control the masses. I hate the...
Yea I also lived in China for 3 years while doing my masters and OP clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Everywhere takes cards and cash in addition to the digital payments. And no service I used was digital only.
Edit: The only requirement I encountered was a local phone number. Not a smartphone.
Just recently got this Hifi Walker H2 and so far I like it. Stock UI was trash but Rockbox solved that issue. At first I was skeptical of needing a dap with how good phones are these days but I'm satisfied. This thing sounds so good and is powerful enough to make my 6XX sing. Plus the customization of rockbox really appeals to...
I have a BTR5 and it is indeed good at what it does. I just don't get the same satisfaction from it as plugging into a headphone jack. The DAP is still fairly new so I'll see if it still appeals to me down the line.
I'm currently reading the Wool omnibus by Hugh Howey. It's pretty decent I've been making very rapid progress as it's been too hot to sleep here recently now the summer has arrived....
The Fifth science by Exurb1a. It's a collection of short stories in a shared universe. Love it so far. Author has a good youtube channel if you're into that.
I’m in the market for my first real pair of headphones for just listening to music. I’ve had a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770s for mixing, but now I want something to step my game up....
I'm in a dilemma, I think ownership of media is important, but the convenience of Spotify and the algorithm of new music that it suggests has helped me find amazing artists that I wouldn't have heard of otherwise....
I used my local library for most of my life. Grew up with crappy internet so that necessitated downloading everything to make sure I got no hiccups when it finally came time to listen. Since starting work I began using Spotify (as a way to take all my music with me, had no alternative at the time) and continue to alternate between both. Streaming is nice and all but dependent on internet and given my experience, it's better to have a local library. It's just more reliable. Spotify's great for music discovery though and has made my local library grown significantly.

Pretty classical question, curious to see what you all think....
I'm worried that in the future we will be forced to use smartphones just like in China
