I'm starting to think people that claim to like the fediverse dont understand the point. We want to be able to follow Threads accounts here without having to have a Threads account. That's the whole point.

No single entity is in control of social media. That's the glory of federation.

Blocking major companies from the fediverse will be the death of the concept. Don't silo yourselves in fits of hate and segregation or you're no better than the things you claim to protest.

The star rating system on AppleInsider is meant to apply a wide net. If we give something 2 stars, it doesn't mean it is trash that isn't worth buying (unless we say so in the text).

I like Apple's Travel Case. It's weird and different. Plus it's a good home for Vision Pro when I'm not using it. All points I make in the review, but readers are stuck on the score.

It's two stars because it sucks as a travel case. Simple. There are better options.

My message to Beeper Mini users getting the shaft from Apple:

  1. Just buy an iPhone

or

  1. Just use a different app like What's App

Apple owes you nothing, to be frank.

Should Google give Apple access to its Search engine so the company can run its own privacy-focused fork? Should Playstation give Xbox access to its exclusives because they are more popular?

I don't understand people's arguments here. Google failed to make a viable chat product, that's not Apple's fault.

Threads integration for Mastodon really showing its weakness for today's Apple event. Posts with very old information intermingling with the live timeline.

Just wore Vision Pro with the Solo Knit Band for 90% of a 11.5 hour shift (minus product photography and dinner). AMA

Apple could sell millions of large HomePods overnight if they announced one single, seemingly obvious update.

Let us connect four HomePods and set them around a room, front pair and rear pair, to create the ultimate Dolby atmos sound sphere.

Just saying. I’d buy two more right now.

Is it a technically difficult thing to solve? Sure, but I expect the current models could do it.

Two now are amazing. Imagine four. With four force-cancelling woofers working in unison. It would be killer.

I don't believe Vision Pro needs to be updated annually or every 18 months. It's price and manufacturing volume alone prevents that.

Maybe once this thing is priced closer to a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and produced in nearly as much volume would such a cycle make sense. Apple might sell 1 million units by 2026.

Would Apple really turn around in 2026 and ask everyone that just purchased a Vision Pro to do it again? Would the market want that?

By waiting until early 2027 it means the early adopters are ready for the new hardware and will upgrade, even at that price. It also means holdouts waiting for 2nd gen hardware will be in line. Do this too soon and you're burning the first-gen adopters.

I'd also argue that the M2 is more than capable of living through to 2027. My M1 iPad Pro released in April 2021 and hasn't even stuttered once. Vision Pro is basically an iPad Pro and M2 is a better M1 -- 3 years should be fine given iPad's software history.

Pundits that say Apple is behind in AI are comparing beta products being shown at a keynote (Microsoft/Google) to rumored products Apple hasn't even announced yet.

Can we all agree this is dumb?

Still thinking about Apple Vision Pro and that reveal. I can't help but think it's a vision of the future of Apple's technology ecosystem.

Can't wait to get my hands on one.

I can’t make myself care about Threads.

The same people who think Apple would repeat the failure of Ping in a new social network are the same ones who thought "Planet of the Apps" was the best we'd see for Apple TV+ content.

The failed music social network was poorly executed from the start. But Apple's various systems like iMessage, Game Center, Music Profiles, and everything else isn't Ping, nor could it be.

If you think Apple can't release a private social network using its existing free social products as the backbone, you're living in a different universe.

The funny part is, Apple is already running one of the world's biggest social networks through iMessage and FaceTime. All we need is a connecting thread between the lot.

Excellent new shirt from @BasicAppleGuy

I may have given him the basic idea, but he ran with it. Love how it turned out.

Apple: reveals Lightning, says it's gong to be the connector for the next decade

Spends the next decade slowly moving all of its devices to USB-C, which Apple helped build based on Lightning.

A decade later, shifts iPhone to USB-C.

Internet people: Apple was forced to adopt USB-C by the EU! Look, Big Tech can be controlled!! Apple would never have done this otherwise!!!

No one has nailed the MagSafe+Airtag wallet yet. The market is ripe for disruption.

The closest I’ve found to what I’d want is one from Veci. I used this wallet for ages until they made a bifold that I really like.

Sure, we can all preach about "staying on Twitter means supporting Musk." And I agree with that sentiment.

Though now it's up for debate to an extent, especially for non-tech people who simply don't know or don't care. However, that's about to change.

Soon, anyone using the platform has to pay something. So the debate will be over and anyone still using it is providing money directly to Musk to keep his platform and his voice alive.

I can happily say that will be the absolute end point for me. I've kept my account active so far due to my position at work and a connection to a handful of friends that haven't moved here, but I won't be paying Musk. So, good news I guess.

How many people will be making the same decision as me?

Apple Journal has been available for six months. Still using it?

I use it as my daily Journal and write an entry every day. I know I've journaled every day for 187 days with Apple Journal thanks to a Streaks automation.

Wild that Apple has added almost nothing since its initial release. It's obvious this will be one of those features that get one big update per year.

I like to have things organized in a way to reduce the number of decisions I need to make each day. It also helps if everything has its place to ensure nothing goes missing.

This little valet tray has been an excellent investment. It holds everything I might want in my pockets, though I don't always take everything.

Seen in the pic clockwise:

Pocket knife, lighter, keys, lint free cloth, cash, wallet, mints, ring, chapstick

Ok I get it. Apple Vision Pro isn't exactly a fashion statement. But you've seen the competition right?

I mean, come on people. (Sorry @gruber)

I'm very curious what the accessory story for Apple Vision Pro is. Will Hermes debut a light shield and headband more expensive than the headset itself? Are we going to see bespoke fashionable headwear? We'll find out soon enough.

Two people are shown in white rooms wearing the Meta Quest headset. It is a white VR headset with white straps. White controllers are held in their hands.
