I just made the Stiggin’s Fancy Old Fashioned from Educated Barfly’s video from today. I think it turned out exceptionally and quite intense if you enjoy that spectrum of cocktails....
My partner and I play audiobooks every night when we go to bed. It’s a great way to relax, and it helps for the Cosmere because hearing it so much makes it easier to catch clues and come up with theories
so maybe it creates a subset of [human] relationships that’s pretty small?
I think it’s this exactly. Meaningful friendships and found family are common elements in TTRPG inter-player character stories. You could do the same thing with romantic and sexual relationships, but it would take a very specific group to have fun and be comfortable roleplaying that. I’m sure they’re out there, but they’re not most people.
The Old Fashioned is my favorite drink. It introduced me to whiskey and mixology plus it's simple and versatile. I think it's easy to judge if a bar has good cocktails based solely on their Old Fashioned. What are your opinions, favorite variations, etc?
So I'm gonna try to start running WDH and I'm confident with chapter 1 Finding Floon. I also think I know how to run the actual Eye Heist situations....
I think it depends in large part on how often you play. If you're doing like 6 sessions a month, 12 sessions isn't too much. If you're only playing once or twice a month, that's like a whole year you're committing, which will probably be too long to focus on quests like these
So, I got curious and set my feed to all. Wow, there a lot of arguments about defederation due to the Beehaw decision. Many Many people positing on "the death of Reddit" and the refugee crisis. I get some of the concerns about moderation and ideology but the amount of navelgazing is unreal. Ill just stick to local for a bit...
I got invited to this instance without really knowing what the whole deal was. I've since started to subscribe to communities in other instances, and I think it's really cool. The big subs usually weren't my favorite anyway, so I'm happy with the communities here. I do think this won't be a direct replacement for reddit, and I think that's fine.
DMs, we always hear about nightmare players who ruin the table, but I was curious if any of you have any stories about players who were just amazing to play with. Players who found appropriately creative solutions to problems, had fun/unqiue roleplaying takes, or even just meshed really well with your campaigns. Any good...
My party are all fantastic. We alternate campaigns usually every session between mine, and one run by another DM, who is in the party during my games and vice versa.
My campaign is the more recent of the two, so we've had our session 0, which included the tavern roleplay, and session 1. After session zero, all the players reflected on the party dynamic that their characters created, and two of them realized the characters they made were too edgelord/loner broody, so for session one, they both started by telling the group that they'd changed their characters slightly so they could be better party members. All totally unprompted. That alone feels like the opposite of a lot of horror stories I've seen lol
In session 1, they encountered my first puzzle. The system I'm running is Pokémon Tabletop United, (while our other DM runs 5e), and the world is a homebrew Age of Exploration-style setting. They had to get the hoist for a mine cart track running so they could descend into an abandoned mine. The hoist was powered by a giant Steel type Torkoal in place of a steam boiler, and they had a cart full of coal, but no matter what they did, they couldn't get the Torkoal to wake up to eat.
That's when my girlfriend, who is one of our players remembered that they'd been given a Lava Cookie by the owner of the tavern, "...for an old friend." If you aren't super versed in obscure Pokémon items, that's okay; a Lava Cookie cures any status affliction on a target. The whole party was so excited to have solved the puzzle, and made my girlfriend feel super proud for thinking of it, which was really nice, because she's still new to TTRPGs, and is still learning how to be fully engaged with the game.
A week or so later, we were all hanging out with friends for a barbeque, and I overheard one of our players chatting with a person I'd never met before, explaining my game, what they had to do, the stuff they'd found, and how cool that puzzle was. That made me super proud.
Hey everyone! I'm about to hop on a plane for 9 hours and need some recommendations for games to download on my phone (android). What are some of your favorite games that should keep me entertained for my flight?
If you haven't played Dicey Dungeons, definitely do. It's above the normal mobile game tier.
Also, if there's still a way to play it somewhere, the Infinity Blade series. It was even good enough to have Brandon Sanderson write a novella for between the first and second game
I think Cultivation has to be the best one. Maybe Invention for similar reasons. Your Intent just drives you to make sure things grow and change. You can have any additional motives beyond those, and I think most won't be an issue. The only drawback I could see is that maybe your Intent would lead you to Cultivating a new vessel for your shard, as being held by the same person forever doesn't work. I think that's what Lift is, and I'm interested to find out if a Vessel can willingly part with a Shard.
I've been trying to fix the CPU issues with the database for weeks now and I felt I had gotten close. I ran these migrations manually and the delete query deleted somewhere around 400k rows. Somehow that I've been monitoring the CPU for about an hour now and it seems to be behaving. It would spike when I upvoted anything and...
My character that I've been playing for two years just died, so I got to make an all new one! He's currently Paladin 2/Wizard 5 (Bladesinger). He's a Tiefling named Justice.
He was basically a middle class nobody, until he managed to get a nobleman to sponsor him to go to his city-state's university. There he studied law, and eventually had a work-study squiring for an order of knights. When he graduated, they gave him an honorary knighthood, and he earned the position of magistrate in his city-state.
Some years later, a theocratic army worshipping Amaunator occupied his city. He was allowed to keep his office, and gained a reputation among the people of the city for being fair on commoners, contrasting the strict brutality of the occupiers. It was during this time that he met his wife, a lieutenant in the ranks of the occupying army.
Eventually, he saw a case between a nobleman in the city, and a peasant. Following the law, he sentenced the nobleman to prison, which did not make the nobleman's powerful father very happy. They couldn't move against Justice directly because of his popularity with the people of the city, so instead they went after his wife. She was imprisoned for "adultery," and he was told she wouldn't be let go unless he stepped down from his position as magistrate.
After he stepped down, he decided to take the law into his own hands. He became a vigilante, enforcing the rules of civilization where the rulers would not. It wasn't long though before the rulers began catching up to him, and so staying in the city became too dangerous. He and his wife then left to join the Resistance, which is where he will meet the party in our next session.
They've already met his wife, who is now known as the Iron Revenant. They don't know she is married though, and one of the other PCs has a bit of a crush on her, so that will be fun.
Have a Monster of the Week game you've been dying to talk about? Have a story from Lasers and Feelings that never actually come up in conversation? Want to talk about Call of Cthulhu? The TTRPG scene is as wide and diverse as the people who play them. What else do you play?
I'm GMing a game of PTU right now! It's kind of half d20, half d6. It has probably my favorite class system I've seen in a TTRPG. LOTS of crunch, though, and combat can get very slow with lots of Pokemon, so you have to be careful how you run it
