So my time with Ghost was very short lived.

I could have sworn that they offered a free plan. Apparently, I either made that up in my head or they really don't. Or maybe it's hidden? IDK. Either way, back on the hunt for a blog host/CMS.

It's not as if I mind paying, but if I'm going to pay, then I might as well host it myself with wordpress.

@thelinuxcast I haven't tried Ghost but see they have a Github and it's MIT license so if you're going the self host route anyway see if that'll work.

AI always looks cool. The demos are awesome. But then you go use it and it's not nearly as good as they make it seem.

Maybe in 10 years, it will be good.

I do wish there was more FOSS built into this movement.

@thelinuxcast Would ollama or GPT4All count? I've had great success with both using a simple RTX 3060.

I wish less would tell you how many lines you still had to go

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Something I've been doing forever, may not work for you, is to turn on line numbers with less -N <filename> and then typing capital G to go to the last line. Lowercase g brings me back to the first line. Far from perfect but a workaround I picked up.

@JayLittle @thelinuxcast Thanks to you two I started thinking there has to be a better way, so looked into it. There's totally a better way! Screen cap from my new method found on stackoverflow:

Looking at the GNOME Foundation expenses stresses me out even from the outside. You may have heard they were running a deficit for the past few years but it wasn't a small one. 2021 ran a 600k deficit, 2022 was 300k

@BrodieOnLinux Me: Surely they know what they're doing, don't worry everybody.

So YouTube has processed the video, I can go to the video and watch it, but it still says "processing will start shortly". And if I make it public it doesn't appear on the channel.

YouTube, stop being garbage.

@Wyatt lol, look like Gentoo is putting doggo to sleep. Good luck with Cinnamon.

@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@Wyatt are there any other keyboards like the Kinesis that have that shape that aren't as big?

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast @Wyatt The first soldering I ever did was for my keyboard a few years ago. I cheated and used Kailh switch sockets. That makes my keys theoretically hot swappable and was a much larger/easier soldering surface. Wasn't nearly as hard as I feared it would be.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@Wyatt @thelinuxcast For sure! I couldn't get one at that time so I went with an inexpensive 60W pen style from Adafruit. Started with too large solder but was all smooth sailing after I got the thinner stuff.

Going to attempt to do my first edit in Davinci resolve tonight.

We'll see how this goes.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast As a Resolve enjoyer I'm around if you have any questions or hit any roadblocks.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast The free version can not do mp4 on LInux for licensing reasons. It can on Windows/Mac but that doesn't help us, sorry sir.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Should be able to import and work with the mov file as long as it's not encoded with h.264. One sec and I'll find the video clip and script to convert videos to a workable format.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast I had the same issue using OBS too. It's the biggest con for the free Resolve tbh, having to convert the format and one of the main reasons I bought the studio version.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast That's a very wise decision. Almost have the clip for you. Skipping through now.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Timestamped at the relevant part for you sir: https://youtu.be/YMtjRh1ve_A?t=210

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Np, and I'm working on a few things so will be around for several more hours if you have any other questions.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Which part would you like to zoom in on? Video window, timeline, etc?

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Shift + mouse wheel

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Oh! Above the timeline. Left most ruler will fit the entire timeline into the window, Middle is more zoomed in and the third is adjusted with the slider to the right of it:

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast TIL that Ctrl + = and Ctrl + - will zoom with keybinds and the sound is probably an encoding that Resolve doesn't like. Linux can't do AAC and Ogg for some reason.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast I just did a quick test by downloading a couple YouTube videos. Had no sound even though my studio version can handle the mp4/mkv. Ran the script from the Resolve video and everything works perfectly, although the files are indeed much larger.

2 Videos recorded. Not bad for a Friday night.

Unsure if I will get one edited in time to upload tonight, but we'll see.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Just recording 2 videos in 1 night is a Herculean feat as far as I'm concerned. Very impressive.

IronPipe,
@IronPipe@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast I could never do that either. Until the instant a video goes live I can't resist the urge to make revisions or little touch ups. I should be more like Brodie, lol.

IronPipe,

@thelinuxcast 4d chess move. Write a story about ricing xmonad or do the Donald Knuth Literate Programming thing and make your rice into the story. lol
