The deed is done. Debian is installed. Windows is gone for good.

30 years of Microsoft OS experience down the drain, because they can't not be capitalist dicks.

What a waste. 🙁

@DaveMasonDotMe Welcome to Linux!

This was really fascinating. https://youtu.be/_Cd6F5_FUt4?si=2WcqAkV0tGGoNMc5

I remember Word Perfect from school, but I had no clue they had their own Distro. Nor did I know that Corel made an ARM based Linux computer for awhile.

I really wish that Gnome had a keybinding to turn on Do Not Disturb.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@angrylinus only in Gnome-world are users supposed to know that, lol

Also, one for on as well? So it'd take up two bindings?

(Matt being picky, lol)

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@angrylinus Thanks for that. :)

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@angrylinus I don't know much about gsettings at all or dconf. I know they exist, but if it's not in the GUI I tend to not know another way of doing it when it comes to Gnome.

Odd given that I'm used to using config files.

I fscking love . Tho, the 3rd party mobile apps all pretty much suck, like some just don't show any feeds. I just added the webpage as an app, it's fine.

that's @thelinuxcast in the image

I've got two issues that I'm going to be tackling soon with regards to my home lab. First: the nvme in my server is much too small, 512GB. I'm going to be running close to that very soon. I've already shoved some docker stuff onto a 1TB rust drive, but I don't want to do that for stuff that needs speed.

So I'll need to figure out how to get everything off of that drive onto something bigger.

Second is networking. This is a longer project and I'm way over my head.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

Unfortunately, the storage problem is going to end up costing even more money.

And I had promised that I was done spending on the homelab for a while.

I still may end up waiting. But I've never been good at that

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@george Mine is too. But I have pcie cards.

I now find myself in agreement with @felimwhiteley. We are going to look back on this period in a few years and generative AI will be considered in the same light as blockchain and crypto are now.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@JoeRess @joel @aks @felimwhiteley So if Joe could only take one Desktop Environment with him on a remote island, we all know he'd choose Gnome, right?

Oh, damn. Misspelled XFCE. lolz

No podcast this week folks. I'm having internet problems. Have to solve that. If I get it working again, I'll try to post a video tonight.

When I decided to upgrade my homelab to an actual server (kinda, it's a workstation, but it has a xeon), I never thought that I'd ever think "you know, 128GB may not be enough".

It is enough, but I still had the thought.

Every effing time I use a yml file I have problems. I just about abandoned a docker thing I'm working on because it wasn't working. No errors or anything this time.

The problem ended up being, as you all know, those effing spaces. For fuck's sake.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@Gabryx86_64 Oh yes, let's trade spaces for a shitload of " marks. lol.

I get it thought. I just thought I was being funny

Never had a managed network switch before. This is going to take some learning.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@prlzx I think mine is just old. Got it back in college which was almost 20 years ago

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@prlzx What's odd though is that this cable works fine when connected to the router, but when it's on the switch it goes down from 1000Mb/s to 8.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@prlzx Smart. It's TP-SG116E.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@prlzx I'm going to have to learn what all of that means.

thelinuxcast,
@thelinuxcast@fosstodon.org avatar

@prlzx Yeah, I've been there and read the manual for this one. I'm a complete noob so that's not really a great source.

@erilun06 I've actually started to really like the combination of Joplin for everyday notes and Obsidian for longer more involved things.
