I think that's the AC changeover board for the system done. Input comes from a 16A breaker on the garage DB, but the output from the inverter goes through an RCBO before returning.
Changeover switch is so I can shut down the inverter and supply the 13A UPS-protected circuits from grid power for maintenance.

@philpem 6mm HSS usually fits in the short term..... otherwise 6mm HSS and a grinding wheel to make the flat nod

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem Hiiiiii! I also used to know the idea spacings you needed to get the most bits in the box and still get teh spanner in to tighten them >.>

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem This took me far too long.
Initially wanted to find a 20mm tap so I could just thread the compression glands into the mahogany.

That didn't work so I had to then find a way to bore a 32mm diameter section out the back for the locknut, then a 20mm one exactly centre of that.

Mahogany box side with black plastic compression glands /somehow/ mounted in it
Mahogany box side showing how black plastic compression glands were mounted it. deep drilled recess for locknut and then conventionally mounted

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem That was the easy bit ^_~ One of them was in a corner where the drill press wouldn't fit..... So had to do that one entirely by eye o.o

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem At some point I'll be well enough to go and finish the wiring!

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@tryst @philpem Qmax cutters are THE SHIT! on thin metals they make such nice holes. Have many sets at work and for the button station I made that requires 22.9mm holes... It made really nice 22.9mm holes!

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@tryst @philpem Yeah. they used to make D-Sub ones as well. But fuck me are those expensive o.<

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem @tryst depends on the plastic. A soft ABS is usually OK. Take it slow and steady. Polycarb or similar is not good >.>

I've been putting off a project for months, and every day I feel worse because it's another day of lost data.

Turns out I built it two years ago and it's been quietly running ever since. I have absolutely no memory of this.

Well done past me. Nice work. A+.

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@jonty See. Now past me is a bastard and would never do anything like this for current me!

So I pass this forward and don't do anything for future me!

The great cycle of bastard nod

@Jencen any recommendations on plug in socket testers? Had a Kewtech Loopcheck but it died after a month of DIY service. What's the usual go-to for trade sparks?

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem Never had one of the small plug in ones. Always had the earth loop/RCD tester that'd give me correct polarity indication. And not had my head in the game since 2011 really. so don't really know o.o

Outside socket is in. Now to do the inside wiring.

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem Need an earth from the faceplate to the backbox, never rely on the faceplate screws to make the connection. Ideally all earths should go into the socket, then take a flying link to the backbox.
This case would be quite bad as all it takes is for a bit of corrosion and now anything plugged in has a really bad earth

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem @tryst aha. All good ^_^

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem @tryst No worries. ^_^

Welp. Looks like it's finally the end of Twatter for me.

Can no longer tweet from tweetdeck to any of my accounts as I "Don't have authorisation to view that status!"

Conducting timed technical tests for recruitment to our team this morning as part of the wider interviews for the role. Every candidate has 20 mins to complete the test, but my boss decided that shouting "ready GO!" then sounding an airhorn was over the top.

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@avon_deer "Candidates! You will go on my FIRST whistle!"

"Gladiators! You will go on my SECOND whistle!"

Absolutely love it that I deal with this broke ass bullshit screen on my laptop every month or so now when I reboot.

Absolutely love it.

Great job, @lenovo

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@deviantollam @lenovo That looks suspiciously like the Cisco logo. Could it be one of their VPN/security packages.
I tried to find some more info, but OMG they have a lot of stuff and it's poorly documented for plebs like me

I work with all sorts of fancy pants networking kit for my day job which is pretty much why I try to lean into dead simple consumer grade kit for my home.

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@tryst @twll Am now curious as to why you need this range o.o

A quick post-work job tonight. Swapping the power supply on the fibre ONT for a PoE setup (injector and splitter). Reason for the injector? My router doesn't have PoE injection on the WAN port.
This should rid me of a wall-wart and is part of my quest to centralise the battery-backup. I'm bored of having UPSes everywhere.

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem God. I remember having to make up 20 of these fuckers at the 11th hour at CFz o.< Awful bloody things.
My fault for buying cheap. but still >.<

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem Possibly yeah. Would make things hold shape better.

If the stories about dragons hoarding wealth were universally true, there wouldn't be so much furry art of dragons.

Jencen,
@Jencen@furry.engineer avatar

@philpem Maybe we just like hoarding things of intrinsic value >.>

I highly recommend de-stressing by using a very powerful laser for entirely frivolous reasons. So relaxing.

Jencen,

@jonty @philpem I need to think of something to build for next EMF.... Sounds like that's out of the question >.>
