Defederation?
From my understanding federation is having services be able to communicate with one another. If my understanding is wrong can you correct me or explain it further....
The "Log" Song From Red & Stimpy (1990s) (media.tech.lgbt)
Who remembers watching Red & Stimpy on Nickelodeon growing up? I adored this cartoon. I even had a talking Stimpy doll/plush where you'd pull his nose and he'd say a line from the show.
Nostalgic "Gap" commercial featuring "Jump Jive and Wail" from the 90s. (media.tech.lgbt)
There was time when swing was THE THING. I had the Brian Setzer Orchestra Dirty Boogie album including countless MP3s by Reel Big Fish, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, etc... It was a unique era for this melding of punk, ska, and swing. Truly wonderful.
Have you ever been so into a show that you're afraid of finishing it?
Right now I just finished season 1 of Yellowjackets, and it's quickly become one of my favorite shows of all time. There is a second season, but I don't want to watch it because then it'll be over. I'll have to wait forever for the next season....
Yellow Wendy's tasted better. (imgur.com)
Wasn't sure where to post this dumb little video I made about random nostalgia I came across today. I'm a huge fan of 80s and 90s retro stuff in all forms.
Personally, I love Beehaw's minimalistic approach to communities.
I like that the admins have decided on quality over quantity when it comes to communities. For example, there is only one gaming community instead of breaking everyone into several smaller subsets. It increases interaction and exposes you to other subtopics that might spark your interest....
Who used to love Tiger handhelds back in the day? (beehaw.org)
I was big into Tiger handhelds growing. They're awful by today's standards, but they'll always have a special place in my heart.
Majority of Americans Would Like to Return to Time Before Cell Phones, Internet, According to New Poll (www.thewrap.com)
Seventy-seven percent of middle-age Americans (35-54 years old) say they want to return to a time before society was “plugged in,” meaning a time before there was widespread internet and cell phone usage. As told by a new Harris Poll (via Fast Company), 63% of younger folks (18-34 years old) were also keen on returning to a...

Suggestion: defederate from known-horrible servers as a precaution
Politics and harassment are one thing, but there are servers that without-a-doubt bad. Some for example literally have "lolicon" in the URL. Not doing that also may or may not invite trouble, depending on your local laws....
an update to defederating from sh.itjust.works
hey folks, here's a quick update on our decision to defederate from sh.itjust.works! (and here's sh.itjust.works's side of this update)...
Who else loves retro tech? (beehaw.org)
I went to a ramen place in Tokyo and to order ramen you had to insert money and place your order via this machine. This felt like going back to the early 90s but in a way that we are definitely not used to in western countries. It had a very retro futuristic vibe!
Was anyone else surprised to see Kbin being written in PHP?
I don't know if it's due to over-exposure to programming memes but I certainly believed that no one was starting new PHP projects in 2023 (or 2020, or 2018, or 2012...). I was under the impression we only still discussed it at all because WordPress is still around....
