Threat Actors Add .zip Domains to Their Phishing Arsenals | Fortinet Blog (www.fortinet.com)

Phishing has been a digital thorn in the side of cybersecurity for over a decade. These unsolicited, cleverly masked requests are the wolf in sheep’s clothing of the digital world. They are always looming, waiting for some unsuspecting employee to click on a malicious link or attachment that can send your company into a...

Just add .zip and .mov to your network firewall. It’s impossible for anyone on my network to visit any of those websites.

Reddit is shit, I’ve deleted all of my accounts. I’m not defending them at all. However, didn’t third party apps literally do the same thing? Where you could buy different themed icons?

It’s a laptop that you can upgrade like a desktop.

You can also mix and match the ports on it, so you can do a combination of whatever ports you use and need most.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

It really is! And if you upgrade your laptop, you can use the old parts to build a mini desktop. They sell an enclosure. So nothing really goes to waste!

I literally have like 1TB of video stored on YouTube and privatized. Google is making $0 from my videos, but they still have to store them and have them available if I want to watch it (it’s all of my Twitch VODs). Meanwhile websites like Streamable perma-delete my 5MB video after it gets 0 views in 2 milliseconds.

YouTube is a behemoth that will not be replaced.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

The fediverse can mitigate this a little bit, as everyone can host their own videos on their own server, but that’s not enough, and extremely inconvenient.

and still expensive as hell. Hopefully one of your videos doesn’t go slightly viral, or you’ll get a pretty huge bill from your VPS. Unless you own the infrastructure, you’re paying a huge penny to host video.

Linus from LTT talked about it when it comes to FloatPlane. How stupidly expensive it is to host video.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m shocked they haven’t already. A good 95% of YouTube could be deleted and no one would notice, and would save Google millions and millions of dollars.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

Fair point! However, your argument is almost more reason for Google to do it.

You find yourself on YouTube for those niche videos, which means you’re the kind of customer YouTube would benefit from getting rid of. A few dozen views from you per year to find niche videos, is not paying them anything, and is wasting a ton of storage. They want people who spend hours upon hours on YouTube per day, essentially replacing TV. Those who spend hours and hours on YouTube, are also generally watching popular videos, or videos that YouTube is recommending, which means a ton of ad views, or even YouTube Premium subscriptions.

I would absolutely be crushed if YouTube deleted all those random niche videos because I just used one last week to fix my car. Some random ass video showing a potential ground wire issue. I am not saying I want Google to do it, I don’t, but I am definitely shocked they aren’t.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

and they keep the original file as well as their converted file. So every video you upload is stored at least twice. Technically more, because popular videos are stored on multiple servers to ensure fast load times no matter where you live. It’s crazy. I would love to see a behind the scenes your of YouTube, and a live stat counter page. It would seem fake.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s interesting. My girlfriends old cat videos from over a decade ago are still there. She hasn’t logged into the account for years and years.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

Oh I don’t. I just move them there because Twitch deletes them after a few days. I don’t care about them, it’s just an easy 1 click button to save them on YouTube.

In fact I stopped relying on Google services when they banned the Terraria developers Google account and the only way he got it back was by canceling the Stadia release of Terraria.

Since that day, I switched to ProtonMail with a custom domain, immich.app, proton calendar, and more.

Realized that unless I have to power to potentially cost Google millions of dollars, Google won’t even look my way.

Your app is the best. Hoping for volume button for comment navigation to be added one day, and then its basically perfect!

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s not true. There are both native and web apps that do this.

Wait, Canada is getting something? I must be dreaming. Google acts like Canada doesn’t exist!

China logs 52.2 Celsius as extreme weather rewrites records (www.reuters.com)

“it’s normal! The world does this every 50 years!”

“It was hotter last year”

“You watch, we will have a crazy cold winter this year. Global warming my ass!”

At least I’m not my sisters children. Poor bastards can barely talk. They’ve got a shit future ahead of them.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

They should shut down their entire garbage ass company instead.

I’ve had a few websites tell me to view their website in Chrome. I just leave, because no way am I putting any kind of personal data into a website run by such incompetent people.

I used to be a web developer. Back 8 years ago, you used to have to do a lot of special tricks to make your website look and function the same in all the browsers. Now, you really don’t. Unless you’re using some really obscure closed source codec or something, websites literally render and function properly without needing any browser specific code fixes.

There’s no excuse, unless you’re blocking older versions of every browser for security reasons, which is fine, because browsers update automatically these days, and it’s very rare for someone to be running a really old version.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

A single entity running the web is dangerous. Using different flavours of what is essentially Chrome is just as bad as using Chrome.

People should really switch away from chromium based browsers if they want to preserve the web. Google is really, really close to having full control.

Apple is faux privacy.

Also, companies like Google are doing a ton of on device ML now. pretty much every single thing on my Pixel 7 Pro never leaves my device.

I paid $180 per month for 25mbps down and 2mbps up. 1TB limit.

I moved, and now I get 1gbps down and 50mbps up for $150. No limit.

I love Canada! Yay.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

So your internet is a bit cheaper than mine, not by a huge amount, but the speed is crazy! That’s awesome!

The other ISP in my country offers 8gbps symmetrical for the same ~$140 CAD per month, but they don’t offer it where I am, because of monopolies.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

I mod a bunch. Only because I joined when Lemmy got it’s big first wave, and the site was literally dead. My contribution was making communities for people to start posting in, because a ton of people simply don’t want to moderate, or don’t know how to create communities.

Within the first week I got a bunch of DMs from people asking to be mods, and I added all of them. I am not making communities to horde them. I am making them so people have places to post. To get the ball rolling.

Literally reads a chain of infuriating events for all to see why one might be angry. “Didn’t happen to meh”.

So why are they angry? What is happening to them, that isn’t happening to me? Are they unable to request refunds? are they unable to buy Microsoft games outside of the Microsoft store? are they unable to buy the DRM free games from Steam?

They are pulling shit from years ago, despite me proving that Microsoft not only makes it easy to cancel, but they do refunds for unused days.

They hate Microsoft and Valve for not being able to “own your games”, despite me showing that steam has plenty of DRM-free games, which doesn’t require Steam or any authentication to play.

They are bringing up the past, despite Microsoft currently showing that they are dedicated to gaming, and providing a really good experience, as well as publishing their games on Steam instead of only their own store.

Why so angry? Why not look at the full picture, and judge based on current events? Microsoft may turn evil, and being skeptical is fine, but at what point are you beyond being skeptical?

Also, not sure why you gotta call me names. Have I called anyone else names this entire time? Can we just have a fucking discussion instead of turning into Reddit 2.0 with trolling and name calling? Jesus Christ.

JshKlsn,
@JshKlsn@lemmy.ml avatar

Definitely the best approach. Use both, pick the one that works best for you. I use Firefox, but when I require a chromium browser, I load up Edge.

“Reposting” as in linking to their content? Most other companies pay Google for that service.

Google has apps that rehost content instead of linking to it. Also, many people only view the headline or the brief description, driving views away completely.

How are those companies going to drive views to their site? Do you think Microsoft and Meta are going to play ball? They aren’t. Do you expect Lemmy instances to pay whenever someone uploads a Canadian news article?

Like I said, search engines rely on content to work. You can already request your website be removed from Google, and prevent it from ever being crawled again. Imagine if everyone did this, Google would literally be useless. Google needs content to work. Google shows ads in their search engine, so they are getting paid by simply linking to your website.

Who said Meta and Microsoft wont play ball? Who said Lemmy is going to have to, is Lemmy a search engine? You’re losing the point.

Our country is a literal South Park meme right now. We’re just waiting on the bubble gum and Bennigans coupons.

Ya, because people like you are okay with Google censoring and blocking news to Canadians for… some reason? Not sure why.

This is borderline fascist legislation. Restricting the flow of information on the internet so that Canadians are forced to turn to traditional mainstream media for their news. It was never about money.

Oh, there’s the south park coming out. It’s clear you’ve never created content online. What Google is doing is wrong, and Canadian journalists aren’t wrong for wanting to be paid for views that are taken away. It’s quite literally Google that is restricting the flow of information, so not sure why you’re blaming Canada.

All Google needs to do is pay pennies per click, just like they do with everything else. They are being a greedy American company who will slowly learn that they can’t treat the rest of the world like they do Americans. Look how great Google is. youtu.be/cA_cJAFF8Ss
