MattsAlt, to chapotraphouse in Ok, but how did they recover the mf hijacker passports from 9/11
@MattsAlt@hexbear.net avatar

It seems like some wrap up 9/11 truth conspiracies into a bundle and throw them all away based on the most absurd ones, like the planes actually being taken away to some black site with all the passengers still alive.

In reality, if you view some of the details like the entire scenario surrounding the striking of the Pentagon, the very odd timing of air defense training/drills drawing fighter jets away from the region, and all the warnings from other intelligence agencies paired with Rumsfeld and friends’ actions that day, it seems just as absurd to say those were a ton of wacky coincidences

If you eat meat and this kind of story upsets you, please do some careful examination of why the industrial animal torture industries do not.

The Internet is text based, assigning a tone to what is typed is purely a personal problem to put it bluntly.

They are asking why industrial animal torture is not upsetting but killing a pet dog is. Why is someone who feels upset about the suffering of a dog not also upset about the suffering of a pig, cow, or chicken? If it’s purely the label of pet, we get back to the comment you replied to

I don’t know what part of the thread I’m in at this point, but I’ve said elsewhere here that I agree this is more unhinged than average carnism defense. The underlying issue I’m trying to tease out here is the imposition of a human’s will upon the life of an animal because the human wanted to do that and didn’t care about the animal enough to make a different choice

The parent to this developing struggle session was not equivocating the two, it was asking why one made carnists feel a certain way and the mass torture of animals for food doesn’t

@MattsAlt@hexbear.net avatar

No, the thing that is special about all of them is that they’re living creatures that can experience pain and have desires to live in their natural environments

Your example isn’t doing any favors here. It’s honestly more concerning that all that matters to you is the label you assign to a being that gives its life worth. You’re explicitly acknowledging anything could be a pet that is meaningful to someone but some just get the shit end of the stick and are killed after a lifetime of torture instead

You’re deliberately misreading their post

It says “why industrial animal torture industries do not” not that “industrial animal torture doesn’t upset you just as much”

Either you think pets are higher tier beings than the equally smart and full of personality animals killed for food or you don’t. It’s not that hard

MattsAlt, to chapotraphouse in I'm at a point where liberals are more annoying than conservatives.
@MattsAlt@hexbear.net avatar

To build on that, I think it’s because “we” actively challenged and continued to grow our understanding to better fit the values held as a liberal. To us, the path out of liberalism is clear if you’re willing to really hold true to values like freedom for all and a sensible form of governance.

The contractions are everywhere, and instead of doing anything to show they do sincerely believe what they say, they make excuses or expend no effort to try and make their beliefs a reality. They’d rather blame everyone to their left and right after doing their one act to effect change, voting, than challenge themselves and their institutions.

Ultimately I think having someone who pretends to care about the same things as you be such obstinate shitheads is much more bothersome than someone who doesn’t. Stolen valor or something

Came here to post this, so I’ll do this one instead

But the white liberals are foxes, who also show their teeth to the Negro but pretend that they are smiling. The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and as the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the “smiling” fox.

I don’t want people to stop protesting, but I also don’t necessarily want comrades arrested for this.

If it felt like there was a snowball’s chance, then I’m all for putting yourself on the line to extract concessions. Currently it feels like almost the entire US political machine is riding on the “kill a ton of people trolley” and barely registering what all the bumps are. They couldn’t care less and will not change based on what we do so catching a charge for this doesn’t seem worth the non-existent squeeze.

I understand Palestinians feel supported by protest actions and reiterate my support for those, I’m only pointing out where it might be right to draw the line.

Very open to changing my mind on this though, I want to believe we can actually have an impact and not just show solidarity
