eddythompson, to linux

what do you use to edit a simple screenshot on linux? I don't need Gimp or Krita or Pinta. I just want to add a big red box or arrow to a screenshot I took.

Mechanize,

IIRC, and if you are on KDE, the latest versions of Spectacle allow you to modify on the fly the screenshots you take.

I'm going purely on memory: I can't find confirmation on the net, and I'm currently on the phone and can't directly check.

What's your opinion about Manjaro? (lemmy.world)

I've seen a lot of people who quite dislike Manjaro, and I'm not really sure why. I'm myself am not a Manjaro user, but I did use it for quite a while and enjoyed my experienced, as it felt almost ready out of the box. I'm not here to judge, just wanted to hear the opinion of the community on the matter. Thanks!

Mechanize,

Personally I use it when I need to spin up a medium to long term virtual machine.

It's fast to set up, it's fresher than a debian based one and you can easily "get dirty" with off the beaten path choices, if you want. Having easy access to the AUR is really a great plus too.

I would never use it as my main distro or as a real OS on the HDD, tho. For that it's just better to use Arch directly, and with the "new" installer it's relatively fast and painless too.

I feel it has its place as a middle ground for someone that wants to learn more about using linux, but who is not really ready to leave the comfort of having an opinionated preassembled experience.

Mechanize,

@fediverso

Inconsistent home feeds

I am still quite new to Lemmy, but think I understood the basics. I noticed something strange though. I first created an account at a different instance, where I subscribed to a number of feeds. As that instance was temporarily overloaded one day I created a new account here, and subscribed to the same feeds. Now that the other...

Mechanize, (edited )

I think I read there's currently a bug with Hot (and maybe active too?) sorting that can crop up when an instance is not rebooted for a while. Most people were suggesting to use the other sorting options till it get fixed, with a lot preferring "Top Day" or "New Comments".

I tried to find the discussion or the github issue back but I had no luck, if I find it I'll add an edit later, so until then take what I wrote with a pinch of salt.

EDIT: I think this is the bug report: issue#3076 and it seems someone is currently working on a fix!

Mechanize,

I think the comment they were referring to is this one:

BTW FYI the two links you posted are not to the same comment. The second one is from a total different discussion too.

The comment id varies from instance to instance.

Mechanize,

Usually the people using the term Jailbreaking mean it as using some kind of exploit to break the rules and limits created by the manufacturer of a product.

It can mean, keeping your example, the act to exploit a known vulnerability to side load apps on your iphone.

In the case of LLM I generally saw it used to mean using non trivial prompts to trick the model to divulge information that it was trained to not share (like suggesting, or instructing how to do, illegal actions), or having behaviours against the alignment it was given (like NSFW roleplaying). So, in short, bypassing its guardrails.

You can find the famous Dan (do anything now) prompt in the llama.cpp repository. Just to be clear I think this one was patched out a long time ago, but you get the idea.

Mechanize,

PSA:

beehaw ha defederato lemmy.world e sh.itjust.works (Annuncio (link))
