I started designing the Qazimodo in February and just got the first aluminum case from the manufacturer a couple days ago. Very happy with how it turned out.
They didn’t switch to USB-C out of the goodness of their hearts. They switched because the EU passed a new law that requires that new smartphones have USB-C ports.
I know. That’s my point. A great example of this is when they used to brag about how eco-friendly their product were. I remember them bragging about their displays being mercury-free, BFR free, etc and their laptops having totally recyclable aluminum and glass enclosures - only to later deliberately make their laptops nearly impossible to repair and upgrade.
Wired headphones are more eco-friendly than their wireless counterparts. They have less circuitry, they lack batteries, and they’re much harder to lose.
Well, that’s what happens when you hyperbolically mislabel your political opponents as Nazis. Suddenly, half the country is Nazis because they don’t want unlimited and unfiltered immigration.
Some definitely are fascists and totalitarians, like the ones who want to ban birth control. Christofascism isn’t just a left-wing boogeyman. It’s real. Some Christians are ironically very unchristian.
2008 wasn’t just a bad year. The job market never fully rebounded after 2008. A big part of this is that a lot of jobs were outsourced and not nearly enough real, lasting job creation occurred afterward. Haven’t you heard about the Great Resignation and the Great Attrition? Do you know why two interconnected events occurred? Because ever since 2008, companies have been exploiting their workers by overworking, underpaying, and mistreating them. People got tired of accepting those conditions and the extra social spending allowed them to effectively strike. How were companies able to exploit their workers like that? By not having enough jobs. If there were more jobs, companies wouldn’t be able to take advantage of their employees. Bringing in more potential workers would only serve to exacerbate the situation.
What do you think would happen if there weren’t any cheap foreign laborers and local folks refused to work until compensation and conditions improved?
For the record - I don’t hate immigrants. I hate companies for cutting way more jobs than necessary and then using cheap imported labor as an excuse to pay less.
My definition of financial freedom is not being dependent on an employer. It’s being wealthy enough to be able to walk away from crappy jobs however long it takes to find a better one.
the word “females” as applied to humans has some pretty gross connotations
Yes, but I’m not using it in that way. I’m just using it as a shorter, yet grammatically-correct, alternative to “biological women”. If someone is offended by me using the word “females” in a non-offensive way, that’s their problem. At this point in time, we need a term which we can use to refer to biological women. Not to sound militantly transodious (“transphobic”), but trans women are not the same as biological women. Even with HRT and full top-bottom surgery, a trans person can’t be totally transformed into their
Years ago, this wasn’t an issue. Biological women were called women and trans women were called trans women. But now that trans people and their allies are pushing for them to be described as their desired gender (i.e. “trans women are women”), we need to be able to verbally differentiate between biological women and trans women, especially in certain contexts.
Intersex people exist"
Yes, they do. But they’re the exception - not the rule. They make up a tiny percentage of the population - roughly 0.02%–0.05%. I’m not saying they’re disgusting freaks or anything like that. I’m just saying that they’re extremely unusual. They’re far from the norm. It’s not like Earth is a 33.33% male, 33.33% female, and 33.33% intersex. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate intersex people either, but I don’t think we should have to switch from saying “women” to saying things like “pregnant people” just to accommodate such a small segment of the population. I know this sounds extremely hateful, but intersexuality is a birth defect. It’s not supposed to happen. Why should we refer to biological women as “people with uteruses” when the only women who don’t have functional uteruses are trans women and persons with birth defects? Besides, don’t infertile women exist? Should we say infertile women aren’t biological women because they’re unable to bear children due to birth defects, radiation, eating disorders, STDs, chemotherapy, et cetera?
No, they’re not. Trans women are trans women. They’re males who identify as women. No amount of HRT and plastic surgery can change that, not totally. HRT and plastic surgery can make a big difference on the outside, but a post-op trans woman still isn’t a real woman. I know this is a very unpopular sentiment here on a fediverse. But somebody’s gotta say it.
