Got inspired by @jordibruin at @DeepDishSwift 🤩 Trying to build an iOS app. With the kids at their grandparents tonight, I have the whole evening 🥰 Wanted to try live streaming, but YouTube needs 24 hours to verify… 😒 So I will be posting progress here 🚀

It got 6 likes here and I have over 1000!

I've noticed something odd with iOS Weather. In the video “today” is Thur.

SOMETIMES when I touch “today” it opens a day with graph where the whole day is a dashed line. That indicates the day is in the past. But if you look at the top it’s showing today (Thur in the video). But if I swipe to the left to move to the next day the top indicator jumps backwards quickly to Wed and then forwards to Thur again where it shows the correct graph with only a partially dashed line.

🧵 1/2

iOS Weather app. Today is tapped but it shows a day with a fully dashed line in the graph. Swiping left brings the map to the "real" today, that is still marked as Thur. Swiping right brings us back to the original graph, which is actually Wed.

2/2

If I swipe to the right to move to yesterday I see the original graph, which actually is the graph for Wed.

Since this only happens sometimes I’m wondering if it’s related to FB13730365 that I opened, which is that I wasn’t seeing a 10 day forecast when I asked for the weather in the morning before 11AM EDT.

Filed FB13808413.

Remember that scene in Lost where Sawyer is annoyed by a super loud frog, and he enlists Hurley to help hunt it down. Then he smashes it with his bare hands while Hurley looks on, aghast? Having been woken up at 4:28am by a toad outside my window that sounded JUST like a ringing phone… I’m on Sawyer’s side.

@superbetsy this is the sound Satan would torment me with if I was in hell.

Hey Chris. How's everything going?

I've a question regarding WeatherKit: what's the way to handle the precipitationAmount + unit. WeatherKit provides the amount in liquid equivalent of all precipitation amounts. So we should format them using ft/mm (and not use cm for solid precipitations like snow/sleet/hail, thus never use the snowfall MeasurementFormatUnitUsage ( https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/measurementformatunitusage/3931463-snowfall)?

What about the "mixed" type?

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@alpennec @adam I'm currently only doing it for snow. I've never seen WeatherKit return those other types. Believe me I've looked.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@alpennec @bardi @adam I haven't tried to access it from the raw JSON. I opened the feedback because it seems like it should be included with the other forecast data they are giving to us.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@bardi @alpennec @adam That's actually what I'm doing. If you look at the first image in this thread the snow part of the chart from my app looks drastically different than the same day with iOS Weather. After I applied that snow ratio to the precip amount for the snow hours the graphs looked much more alike.

Yes, I've searched high and low. Found several days with both snow and rain but have never seen mixed, hail, etc.

@alpennec @bardi @adam yeah, that’s the whole reason why I opened feedback and made that thread. The data is there. It should be available to us without having to parse the raw JSON.

My update just got approved without including a privacy manifest. I thought that was required now? I was expecting to get an email telling me which API’s my app was using that I needed to declare reasons for.

MuseumShuffle,
@MuseumShuffle@mastodon.social avatar

@jefframes @chrisvasselli yep. There is no way in hell I’m putting my real address in and the options I’ve seen for receiving physical mail cost more than I make in the EU a year. I’ve just been ignoring it and have been updating my app just fine.

What are folks' strategies with using the StoreKit 'requestReview' call? Given that Apple controls when the user sees this, I often see advice that you should be pretty aggressive with calling this - is this how you call it?

Have you seen any evidence that you're penalized with this strategy? I have an app that gets pretty decent volume, and is calling this aggressively, but is getting very few ratings 🤔
