Temperature dipped below 12° briefly yesterday before maxing out at 24 or so. Similar temperatures forecast for the next week. It’s been shorts and tshirts weather all year to this point.

Brace yourself. Winter is coming.

Deli comeback gets a little bitter - Surreal complaints by some nimbys. Thats Dr Nimby to you! (perthvoiceinteractive.com)

neighbours nearby say they purchased their homes on the understanding it was a purely residential neighbourhood and they’re worried noisy customers might start queuing in their street and create a hazard...

It’d depend on the type of cafe. A hole in the wall coffee shop that just serves take away drinks and maybe a muffin wouldn’t be expected to offer a toilet.

Full meal service is different, of course. Then again, those hidden gem cafes are all over the suburbs in Melbourne and the locals love them. I can’t see why anyone would be against one of those in the community, either.

After my last disastrous attempt at picking up this spare number plate, I’m trying again. There’s a teacher’s strike on, so I have a rare opportunity during office hours for this.

We left home at 7am, just got to the department of transport just now. It opens in 15 minutes. 8am on a Tuesday morning is obviously a busy time, since I’m 36th in the queue.

Ironically, Ms Faranda was politely asked by hosts of The Project to hand her baby to her partner last night after the child’s crying disrupted the interview.

HA!!
Yeah, I took the kids out all the time when they were babies. Shops, markets, cafes etc. I never took them to a cinema or a show, because that would be inconsiderate.

I’m all about parental rights, and absolutely all about parental facilities catering to dads. But my rights end at the point where they impinge on yours.

I drove past it, then tried to take the kids down. Only we didn’t get there until after it had wound up at 3pm. Station isn’t much different to what it was when only two platforms were open. There are still only two platforms in use, just platforms 1 & 4 instead of 1 & 2.

The big bridge of the Ellenbrook line to the centre of the Tonkin has also been finished and is a more impressive feat than the new station platforms.

Our favourite air freshener appears to be out of stock everywhere. Woolies and Coles list it as unavailable at all the stores. Bunnings are saying it’s deleted. The website is still up, but I think they’re going out of business.

This is devastating. I’ve been using this brand since I met my wife, no idea how long she’s been using it. I’m at the point where I’ll buy every bottle a store has - 5 year’s supply if I must rather than trying to find something else.

Orange. Though I’d buy the lime one if it was all I could get my hands on.

It’s paywalled, but it is not looking good:

I love his music (not so much this song). But the dude has been divorced four times - that tells me that whatever his relationship issues are, they’re probably on his end.

A far bigger issue with us is the milk plastic milk cartons. We go through about 2l of milk a day.

After that happened in the movie, I was angry that a big moment had been denied me. I basically stopped watching trailers of any film I intended to see that day.

People who are into movies say that the trailer is a part of the experience. But I’d prefer to go in completely unspoiled.

It would be interesting to get these numbers split out to pure holidays, work travel, and visiting family.

I suspect work travel has plummeted since 2020. I know it’s anecdotal, but everyone I’ve spoken to who has traveled overseas recently has been seeing family.

I don’t think pure holiday travel has recovered yet.

Sometime around Monday/Tuesday I passed a milestone of six months on my running streak. Every day since October 16, I’ve gone for a run. I’ve averaged about 6 hours a week running, or roughly 24 hours running every 4 weeks.

I wonder whether I’ll make it to a year? It would mean not getting sick for a year. Seems unlikely.

Once the driver let my kid actually toot the horn. He was our neighbor and knew us. That was 2016 and it’s a core childhood memory. The kid is still obsessed with trains.

My theory is that Melbourne’s awful weather is the cause. The city has adapted to have a lot of indoor type options to go. There’s a lot of exploring involved. I don’t know where it started, I think one of the first was The Waiter’s restaurant - a place that ignores all the rules of being on the main drag and trying to attract customers. This place is hidden up stairs down an alley up the end of Bourke St. It’s been there since the 40’s.

People like finding these hidden places and Melbourne has loads of them. It isn’t unique around the world, I’m sure, but Perth sure doesn’t have hidden places like this.

Nah there is always something going on in Melbourne. Cricket, Australia Open, Formula One, Moomba (usually), Comedy Festival, AFL, etc etc. Then there are dozens of little festivals throughout the year. Plus there are several theatres and concerts always happening.

You don’t really see it all when it’s all you’ve known. But it’s a lot.

I’m a bit embarrassed about my first LP with my own money:
youtu.be/S_E2EHVxNAE

I’m my defense, it was a huge song/album at the time and my brother already had loads of better albums that I probably would have picked over this one.

It was a toss up between this one and the Roxette newspaper one. Even at the time I thought I should have gone with Roxette. But the radio was really flogging The Look to death.

The toll ones are especially funny in Perth - there are no toll roads in WA. 😃

Well, yes.

Our assorted clans, tribes, societies or cultures regardless of where or when in our species’ history have always relied on a stream of babies. Needing babies is not in question.

From a purely business perspective, gaining a well-educated taxpayer in 20 years is going to cost a lot more than $10k (healthcare, education etc). But, is an extra $10k investment now worth that taxpayer in 20 years?

I personally pay well over this amount annually in taxes. It sounds like a good investment on the face of it I just don’t know how many people this will pay for.

I wonder whether this might have been why he was picked as the #1 draft this season?
