I have an aversion to violence. I'm not a pacifist, I believe in self defense, and I, as an Anarchist and Communist, believe, ultimately, that the overthrowing of the state and the workers seizing the means of production will inherently require violence of some sort (it would be naive to assume otherwise), but I also believe, based on the history of Anarchism, that the Anarchist use of violence has always backfired and done serious damage to the Anarchist movement as a whole. Some reasons I believe this are listed below:

  1. Negative public perception: Engaging in violence can create a negative public perception of the Anarchist movement. Acts of violence can be seen as chaotic, destructive, and threatening, which can alienate potential supporters and make it more difficult to gain popular support for Anarchist ideas and initiatives.

  2. State repression: Violent acts by Anarchists can often result in increased state repression and surveillance. Governments and authorities may use such acts as a pretext to crack down on Anarchist movements, restrict civil liberties, and justify the consolidation of power.

  3. Strategic considerations: Some Anarchists argue that acts of violence can be strategically counterproductive. They contend that non-violent direct action, civil disobedience, and grassroots organizing is more effective in achieving long-lasting social change. By engaging in non-violent actions, Anarchists can appeal to a broader range of people and focus on building alternatives to oppressive systems.

It is important to note that the aversion to violence within the Anarchist movement does not mean that all Anarchists are strictly pacifists or reject self-defense. Many Anarchists believe in the right to defend oneself or others when faced with immediate harm or violence. The objection is primarily towards using violence as a method of achieving broader social and political change.

    Wann versteht die FDP, dass es mit Parkplätzen und autofreien Innenstädten exakt so laufen wird wie einst mit dem Rauchverbot in Innenräumen? Auch damals war das Ende der Freiheit nah und die FDP war dagegen, doch heute wollen selbst Raucher nicht mehr den alten Zustand zurück.
