Over a decade ago when I was in The Gambia we had one of these badboys https://doulton.com/products/british-berkefeld-stainless-steel-gravity-system?variant=47184177824078 because as a poor country hammered by the legacy of colonialism it didn't the infrastructure to provide safe clean drinking water on tap, and today here I am in the UK in 2024 wondering if I should consider buying one of the damn things https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/may/15/devon-resident-told-to-boil-tap-water-over-risk-parasitic-disease-south-west

@afewbugs That's a little disconcerting.

@afewbugs The insulin shortages were bad enough to read about, but for such a major area to be without safe tap water? Worrying.

@afewbugs @SaintlySin I am so sorry to hear that. I remember sitting in my "How to live with diabetes" course pre-Brexit vote and someone asked the lead endocrinologist "do you think there will be shortages" and he said "I can't predict the future". I pointed out that there was no England-based pharmaceutical company manufacturing insulin, so... I was then accused by another course taker of 'fearmongering'.

I have never been so sad to have an "I told you so" in my pocket.

My timeline is filled with people seeing their first aurora last night and it's so heartwarming. I'm so glad that so many people were able to experience such a wonderful part of our planet.

A common refrain I remember from growing up in Alaska is getting a call from a friend and them saying "The lights are out!" and I'd call a friend and say the same thing and then run outside to see the Northern Lights.

I apparently failed to do something or did it wrong with my change over to the new insulin pump and now there's An Entire Thing that's happening and I am overwhelmed and want to have a cry and live in a stump.

I'm sure it'll be fine but I still do not deal with screwing up gracefully.

Honestly, this is horrifying. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/sep/27/xtwitter-scraps-function-letting-users-report-misleading-information

I try to treat Twitter like the House of Lords (sorry, The Other Place) in that I don't talk about it much on here, but my goodness, this is very concerning.

@seachanger I don't use Twitter at all anymore, so no. But I also know a lot of people who do, and to remove that kind of community driven corrective is worrysome.
