Anarchist, autistic, engineer, and Certified Professional Life-Regretter. I mosty comment bricks of text with footnotes, so don’t be alarmed if you get one.

You posted something really worrying, are you okay?

No, but I’m not at risk of self-harm. I’m just waiting on the good times now.

Would be great for me and others who have trouble with body language. I could deepfake a version of myself with neurotypical body language and offload the effort of “acting normal” to the AI for interviews and video calls. Genuinely I’m super pumped for this.

But like seriously, I have absolutely no idea what is going on with these images. Like bare-minimum context.

Bro, do you think I'm walking up to the gate, hoping my puppy-dog-eyes routine will get them to let me in for free? IF I WANT YOUR TICKETS, I'LL TELL YOU. FUCK OFF. (lemmynsfw.com)

Oh, wait. Maybe he realizes I have tickets, but he thinks I might want some EXTRA tickets, as souvenirs. Just keeping the stubs is for suckers, right?

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S,
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Actually, you might need an extra ticket in case you have access to a time machine and go back in time to watch the show a second time.

Brown pill so that I can force any set to be compact and make math like 69% easier.

@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I just tested it now and I also got the same result. I honestly thought they might have patched it within that time but I guess not. What a bunch of fucking clowns. Saving these images for the next time someone tells me that math can’t be used for racist purposes.

But like…yeah, that’s kinda it IMO. None of the distros come out of the box absolutely perfect for me and my use case, but Debian is close enough, well-documented enough, and flexible enough to be configured into a “perfect distro”. I haven’t really had a reason to distro-hop on any of the systems I installed Debian on.

Understood, although I have had good luck with either using the Flatpak or installing the .deb distributed by the app developer for packages where the Debian version is too old.

KDE Plasma. It works for me, and it has enough features so that I can adapt it to my workflow as my workflow changes.

Mandroid Echostar - Catchy prog metal with clean vocals

Anaal Nathrakh - Grind/black metal with industrial influences

The Arcane Order - Long-form melodic death metal

Arcania - Kinda like a thrashier Gojira

Rivers of Nihil - Proggy death metal

Unfathomable Ruination - Brutal tech death

Thantifaxath - Dissonant black metal

We Lost the Sea - Post-metal. I need to give some context for this one:

Departure Songs is inspired by failed, yet epic and honourable journeys or events throughout history where people have done extraordinary things for the greater good of those around them, and the progress of the human race itself. This is a celebration and a tribute. Each song has it’s own story and is a soundtrack to that story.

This is our 3rd album and our first instrumental album. We’re exploring new ground and exploring ourselves in the past 2 and a bit years since Chris went on his own journey. It’s slightly bleak with shimmers of hope and layers of emotion. It’s a tribute and a catharsis of emotion and honesty.

I.e., their vocalist died and this was their way of grieving. Incredibly deep cut IMO.

Alpinist - “heavylowfastslowdark hardcore”

Catholics are Christians, but Christians are not necessarily Catholic. For example, Orthodox Christians are not Catholic. Being Catholic requires, at the bare minimum, agreement with the Holy See and implicitly the dogma he endorses. Even this “minor” difference can be used to find non-Catholic Christians.

Precisely, Catholic ⊊ Christian.

The reason why this is the case has to do with the history of Christianity, specifically the various schisms throughout the ages as the Christian faith evolved. That’s an incredibly complicated topic which I’m not qualified to discuss.

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S,
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

One kinda emphasizes, if not “otherizes” the other… usually in a not good way…

Yeah. People have been killed over being Catholic in a non-Catholic Christian society and people have also been killed over being a non-Catholic Christian in a Catholic society.

But that doesn’t mean that we can’t or shouldn’t differentiate at all between the dogmas of Catholics and the wider practice of Christianity.

(orientalize or occidentalize)

I mean there are lots of non-Catholic Churches with European origins, for example Lutheranism and Anglicanism. So I think it’s a bit more complicated than “otherizing” with respect to that specific dichotomy.

I think we don’t block anyone, including Threads. If you want, you can block them for yourself in your settings.

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S,
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I don’t think they need us to be federated with them to use your information. Like they could probably just scrape it if they decide they’re interested in it.

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S,
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yeah, I get that approach. IMO for 99% of people joining an instance that blocks Threads is probably a good idea. However, I’m not one of them, and I think most people on this specific instance aren’t either, hence why we’re here instead of somewhere else. I think that for my “threat model”, the benefits of having access to the full Threadiverse outweigh the possible downsides.

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S,
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Yes. Meta is a shit company, and I’m not a fan of corporations in general so they’re doubly shit. Frankly, I hate them and everything they’re about. My point still stands. Particularly, for my threat model, I want to be able to monitor the situation and interact with people who feel “forced” to be on Threads.

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S, (edited )
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Not really.

A lot of good people are on enshittified social media (Threads in particular) because they feel pressured by their social network (their actual set of human contacts) to “go where the people are”. Some of them are there because they don’t know that the free Threadiverse exists, particularly Lemmy (I’ve never met anyone IRL who knows what Lemmy is).

It’s not a silver bullet, and obviously I’m just one guy making uncoordinated comments and posts, but I think that there is some benefit to interacting with Threads users if and only if you personally can take on the extra load of doing so.

If we wanted to make a “coordinated” campaign against Threads, IMO the strategy would be to (1) be nice to people from Threads who decide to come to our communities, so long as they behave, and (2) post openly coordinated anti-Meta messaging distributed throughout the Fediverse in places where Meta can’t just take it down, of course placing this messaging in appropriate communities. I.e., make the free world a challenging place to be for a company that doesn’t respect freedom. But I’m not experienced/sociable enough to orchestrate item (2).

How do I deal with people not reading things?

I’m autistic. This problem shows up for me all over the place, to the point that I typically don’t recommend reading anymore except when strictly necessary. However, it is showing up now because I’m working with people on a project (and generally everyone I have worked with at school so far) who will not read, particularly...

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S,
@PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I have a coworker who’s very likely autistic and his type of working is, writing down everything. also lacks a filter of what information is important and which isn’t.

This is figuratively me, because yeah I’m autistic and I personally have a dogshit memory. To that end, I’ve not shown them like 90% of my notes.

This might be useful if you have a super complex project and important scientific workflows where you’re highly urged to not do mistakes, but otherwise it’s way too much.

See that’s the thing though, we really are working on a super complex project where we really can’t afford to make mistakes.

Have you tried to be brief?

Yeah I have. I guess not brief enough.

Maybe throw the text into chatGPT and compare a condensed result with your own?

I’ll give that a shot!

Also btw, if you’re really autistic, then your brain literally works different, compared to how most other people process information and sensory impressions.

Yes I am actually autistic, and I’m aware my brain works different. That’s why I decided to get other people’s perspectives on the matter.

The context is a group project you have to do for school?

Yeah, grad school. I was expecting four years of college to filter out unserious students.

The reason I am checking is that these often turn into one person desperately trying to get the others to do something and ending up doing it all themselves.

I genuinely hope they just ask me to do the whole thing, because I can do the whole thing myself. I brought them on because I need to learn to work with people. Naturally, I would always work alone, but I’ve been burned a few times trying to take on group projects solo and burning myself out, so I brought on some people to split the work.

What is it you’re trying to get them to do? Why do they need to read the stuff you’re sending them?

I don’t want to give out too many details in case they show up here, but I am trying to get them to write basic implementations of a few key features. They need to understand how the microprocessor actually communicates with the peripherals so they can configure it (and the peripherals) correctly. This topic is exactly what the course is about.

No one reads this stuff unless they absolutely have to. What is the purpose of asking them to read it?

It’s a coding-intensive project where we need to communicate with a few peripherals without locking up the rest of the system. There’s no way to just “figure out” this stuff. You either read the code, or you read the docs, or you flounder.

I thought the possibility of failing the class + the fact that they chose to be in my group voluntarily after warning them at every step of the process that this would be a challenge would be enough to motivate them.

Underpaid

Yeah only one of us has a job. We’re not making any money for this lol.
