I’d like to see some proof of those numbers. Maybe I’m cynical, but I don’t trust that that’s all they’re taking. If companies like that can get away with bending the rules and taking more than their share then they will absolutely do it.
Yesterday was Lucha Fantastica day and we absolutely loved it! It was at Collingwood town hall and we got there early, so first we went around the corner to Raphs for a coffee and snack, a nice tiny cafe that Mr P said did a great moussaka.
The kids could get right up close to the wrestling ring and my eldest (the keen wrestling fan of the family) was particularly enthralled. He was very interested in inspecting the setup of the ring and how it was put together. I never thought I’d spend a Saturday enthusiastically cheering a wrestling man dressed as a giant taco but there I was. Captain Chipotle chugged Valentina chilli sauce from the bottle. Chico was a crowd favourite, throwing lollies into the crowd throughout the show. I hear during the later adults show it’s tequila getting poured into the crowd ringside. One dude was wrestling dressed as an alien 😂 Mr P was happy there was Mexican beer and a margarita which was surprisingly strong, it really slapped. It was the kind of light hearted entertainment I’d been missing. At the end they had a couple of pinatas for the kids to have a crack at (some of those kids were swinging for Australia lol). An all round excellent day.
When I’m super super sick, it pays to differentiate between “untidy” and “dirty”. Deal with “dirty” first, and take frequent rests. “Untidy” can be done any time after that.
We had bolognaise, but I cooked both spirals and spaghetti and served them both with the same sauce. I didn’t have enough of either pasta to just choose one, but it ended up being an interesting exercise in seeing how the shape of pasta can influence how the sauce tastes.
my bit for the environment is to consume less, a lot lot less,
This is the most important bit of anything for the environment. We’re so primed by our society to consume, to want more. It’s almost rebellious to go against it and deliberately consume less.
Schnitzel and salad or vegetables. Gotta make it from scratch, even the breadcrumbs, as the kids don’t like any store bought schnitzel, not even from the butcher.
Watched 4 corners about the school refusal last night and it resonated very strongly with me. Especially the lady who said, “If tough love worked my kid would be at school.” The parents who accused their kids of being lazy, who opened the curtains and pulled the blankets off their kids, who’ve shouted and tried to push and push… yeah I’ve done some bad parenting in the past and I’m not proud. I had to question where this was coming from within me (thanks mum and dad!) and be flexible as a parent and completely change strategies.
I’ve scheduled a meeting with Elder’s school later this week to develop a plan to get him back to school, starting with a reduced hours timetable. It’ll have to accommodate his fortnightly sessions. I’ll be asking for extra tutoring for him to help him get up to speed. He’s basically missed the whole year at this point. Whatever they can offer, I’m going to push for, and more. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!
The article basically covered the essentials but the show fleshed out the human experience side of things a bit more. It was great to hear what the kids had to say about it all. Can recommend.
That zoo comment resonated with the elder minipeeler as well; he finds it’s an overwhelming cacophony, even in class, and at recess and lunch it’s even worse.
The price of soup is outta control! I paid $15 recently for a very average minestrone (honestly, the canned one’s better). Always wanted to run a business that was just soups and stews and nothing else, done well and cheap.
