I hate politics and I generally try to avoid positing about it for my own peace of mind. But it's nauseating to see how some people in the world refer to him as "president". He was as "president" and came to power as "democratically" as all those who sent their condolences including but not limited to:

  • Taliban (Afghanistan)
  • Putin (Russia)
  • Xi (China)
  • Bashar Asad (Syria)
  • Lebenan militia
  • Iraqi militia
  • Erdogan (Turkey)
  • Rafael Grossi (IAEA)

Decide for yourself!

I try to imagine an alternate universe where Mossadeq stayed in power and Iran remained a democracy. Oh joy.

Is it me, or does macOS have a ton of ways that a forensics examiner can easily tell when files were accessed? Be it Spotlight caches, the .fseventsd log which writes when files were modified, oddball permissions. Macs are a gold mine if captured and examined. Don't forget the "._" files that are thrown around everywhere as a way to add attributes.

Just wait until MS implements its replay feature for windows. It'll constantly be monitoring all user activity.

Bet you a quid all that crap gets reported to employers via group policy/AD voodoo.

#introduction

I worked in IT for a couple decades, burned out, went back to college and got my bachelor's in literature. Went to grad school, burnt out again.
Life's an adventure.

I love linux, sci-fi, people of all walks, and Jesus. I'm not preachy.

Been using linux off and on since 1997, steadily since 2000, and constantly since 2019. :D

Big believer in free and open source software. Linux is freedom.

Manjaro is my pragmatic distro of choice, but Debian is home. <3

@fredbrooker

Are you still in recycling?

I once had a dream where I worked in a warehouse unloading boxes of foam insulation sheets.

I was unspeakably happy working that idiotic job. I feel envious of my dream-self from that dream.

I'm not in IT anymore, but I still have more stress than I can handle.

...

I wish I could go back to 1994 and be happy just making $4.25 doing helpdesk at my community college.

I wish I could go back to 2002 and work my dream job in OLD IT when they respected their people and developed solutions in-house, rather than using trash like outlook dot com/gmail, slack, gdrive, etc.

When I was an infosec guy, I would've laughed someone straight out of the room if they recommended using gdrive inside the enterprise.

Need to figure out a way to perform regular backups for my home server with an incredibly poor upload speed…

What options do I have…?

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@steffo

I was kinda kidding, but maybe take an initial backup with sneakernet and maybe do diffs with rsync daily? Dunno.

42!! Lucky number! NOT 84! (Even though it came out in '84, that's immaterial!)

The ONLY Macintoshes that ran at 512x384 were the 1990 Mac LC and IIsi with the 12" screen, and the Color Classic and perhaps other related later all-in-ones.

ALL MONOCHROME COMPACT MACS HAD 512x342 RESOLUTION SCREENS.
