@RL_Dane good writeup here. seems like OpenAI approached her, but she declined. I try to remind myself that the median/mode google search is probably trivial emphemera like ‘how tall is tom cruze’ where no one in the process actually cares about any of it, so long as text appears on a screen and an ad is shown.

    Hmm, only taking 1, 2 and 5 plastic nowadays around here. Don't even know if these are reprocessed. So much for recycling plastic.

    @ai6yr ♺1 stands a decent chance; less so for 2 and 5. (warning: not an expert on recycling) After China closed its imports, I think waste collectors stopped asking for most things that didn't have a market for the recycled material, so 1, 2, and 5 are the most likely to end up in something else.

    Given their oligopoly status and vital importance, carriers should really be subject to a NTSB- or CSB-style report detailing what went wrong after every event where, say, 1000 people lose coverage.

    @misc I always appreciate your thoughtful perspective. I’m not particularly anti-The Bridge, but am skeptical of its purpose/utility. (the quality of argumentation pro/con is poor, imo)

    tbh, while I haven’t used BS despite my best friends being there, my impression is it’s a concentrated form of the most exhausting aspects of twitter (for me). if the graphs were flattened, I might just check out and find something else to do.

    @misc out of non-judging curiosity, are you into video games? I am not, but I have a little hypothesis that people who are accustomed to video game aesthetics find it more appealing. (at least, whenever I see any of this stuff, I mentally think “ugh video game*”)

    (*v.g.’s are art and cool! but the ‘photorealistic’ v.g. stuff never appeals to me)

    LOL dropped in at the house, heard someone saying angry things in Spanish upstairs in the bathroom (where I had suggested i buy new faucets/fixtures and have them install, but they said no)... So I am guessing they have been arm wrestling the old fixture which need to be replaced. I did not interrupt them.

    I am finding Spanish exceedingly useful the past few weeks, very glad I have been slowly working on it. Comprehending what is being said (probably at 80-90%. 100% if it's an ad on Los Angeles Spanish language radio, LOL.) and some canned phrases. (Need to bolster the speaking part...). (using the "how I learned Morse Code" technique to learning Spanish. 🤔 )

    @ai6yr the ‘flashbacks’ bit is a bit too vaguely described for me to tell, and certainly we all remember embarrassing things so it might be nothing, but I definitely get sudden memories of embarrassing events that are intense enough that I have to ‘snap out’ of.
