While XBox has lost its chance to win me over (I don't think the catalogue of games will ever be appealing)

If the rumors are true and the next one can run Windows - it'd be an instant buy.

After all incompatible/broken hardware I've had to deal with, any device that can exist as a "reference device" that tons of people will have - I'll get that instantly.

'cause if I have problems, a loooot of other people will have the same ones so they might actually be fixed.

@Nifflas It’s more like the other way around. Other manufacturers will be able to make devices running Xbox OS, which will give them instant access to a huge library of console games (all of them are guaranteed to work well for this form factor).

Meanwhile Xbox OS itself will open up to other stores so people can play their Epic and hopefully Steam libraries on them. As long as the games are ported.

@Nifflas Increased hardware competition would be a good thing for innovation I think. As long as they’re guaranteed to at least match a certain baseline.

Right now consoles need to focus on maintaining a healthy ecosystem so they need mass market sales. The central platform takes that concern away. Niche consoles can exist under those conditions.

@grumpygamer This is strange because it’s not really reflected in sales numbers. Games with considerate mechanical depth still account for the top sold singleplayer games. With the decreased popularity of “cinematic” games maybe even moreso than ever.

@Nifflas Makes sense since TMP wasn’t developed internally. It was originally sold on the asset store and Unity bought it.
I always thought it was awkward to use.
