  • SecurityWriter,

    @dascandy42 If I’m totally honest, it’s wasted on everything except Steam for me right now, or doing some large data moves, which are rare for me.

    It just works out the same price as VDSL for me now. Only just got switched on last week.

  • SecurityWriter,

    @mona Oh that one actually is still working, but I can see how you’d think I meant that!

  • SecurityWriter,

    @mattdarveniza Still looking unfortunately.

    CVT is fine, though the whine on long journeys (most of my miles) can be off putting, depending on the car of course.

    I do enjoy driving Subarus, it’s just that they’re not great on fuel. I may swing by the dealership on my travels this weekend though, in case there’s any nice offers on.

    SecurityWriter,

    @wishy I did have the 4WD Swift for a while as a rental car, it was great in the snow with winter tyres!

    I’ve enquired about Vitaras today but unfortunately the AWD Auto is a unicorn and you can’t get them anywhere, and it’s an 8-12 month wait.

  • SecurityWriter,

    @valthir I’m maybe two hours in now and having a blast. Feels like I never left. All those quirks and foibles and arcane hidden techniques/mechanics are there.

    It’s very pretty and the loading times are stupidly short on PS5, meaning you’re right back into the action.

    Very impressed with the level of accessibility too.

    Also loving the tone and delivery of the story, it’s very AC, and does a tremendous job.

    SecurityWriter,

    @valthir It’s always been quite taxing in that you’re firing a volley of missiles, horizontal or vertical, letting them fly but also charging in and going close quarters. Or using long range shoulder cannon and managing the reload time.

    Constantly switching between short and long range, while keeping an eye on the dangerous targets.

    It’s a dance, and the new UI and audio cues really work well at conveying all the relevant information.

    I did a short thread a while back about safeguarding and security on iOS. I forgot one of my favourite features.

    If you hold the power button + any volume key for 3 seconds OR click the power button five times, quickly, you’ll notice it brings up the emergency call screen and vibrates to let you know it’s starting the emergency call process (so it can be done out of sight) - very useful in its own right. HOWEVER.

    Arguably the best feature here is hidden. If you stop when it vibrates, It locks the device and demands you use your PIN on the next unlock. Try it out now!

    I’m going to be totally honest, I expected that with Threads arriving, the Mastodon sign-up numbers would have dropped significantly, not the opposite. And I was totally fine with the former.

    And I just want to clarify my stance on it.

    You can’t bird-cage people on a platform because you don’t like the alternatives, and you can’t dictate terms to celebrities and brands who will flock to monetised platforms.

    You also can’t expect everyone to be here because it’s your preference.

    People will use what works for them. It just so happens that here works for me, and I love the people I’ve met here.

    Today is interview day. No matter how many boards I sit on or multinational corporations I pitch to, the most nerve wracking thing to me is being interviewed for a job.

    I think it’s because my own standards are so high that I worry about being judged by them.

    Thankfully, I’ve applied for 8 jobs and been invited to interview for 3.

    One has been withdrawn (internal hire) and the others haven’t closed yet. So fingers crossed.

    SecurityWriter,

    @RichBartlett Thanks, Rich!

    SecurityWriter,

    @boby_biq I am very much trying to appear that way!

    SecurityWriter,

    @_calmdowndear Thanks, Gavin!

    SecurityWriter,

    @Edent Thanks, Chief!

    It just so happens I have arachnophobia, so it’s just as well!

    SecurityWriter,

    @dazzknowles I’ll take luck if you have some spare, Dazz.

    We now need to figure out what “enshartification” means

    SecurityWriter,

    @jerry I believe it’s unintentional enshittification.

    SecurityWriter,

    @Viss @jerry also valid. It’s like the double slit experiment. Instead it’s double shit.

    Depends on how, and who is observing it. The ensharter or the enshartee

    People choosing Threads and Meta As their hill to die on, and here like:

    “Chop is the best brown sauce on the planet. Fight me.”

    SecurityWriter,

    For those not in the know, a sauce that is brown is not brown sauce.

    SecurityWriter,

    @shibashecurity I think it might be called brown sauce as they had no more descriptors to apply to the taste

    SecurityWriter,

    @intrbiz I did say I’d die on this hill.

    And die I might. Right or wrong. Chop til I die.

    SecurityWriter,

    @intrbiz less vinegary than HP. And maybe that’s what people enjoy about HP… but not I.

    SecurityWriter,

    @intrbiz Can’t give them an inch or they’ll take a mile. They walk among us.

    I’m Lancastrian. Wars were fought over this. Which we won… naturally.

    But they do make bloody good brown sauce and tea.

    SecurityWriter,

    @intrbiz I love folks from Yorkshire. And to be fair, Chop isn’t made there anymore either. But I’ll let them have it.

    jerry, to random

    Ok, I’m tired of Threads now, so here is a picture of my pets sharing a dog bed in my basement office during a recent storm (note, they are most decidedly not snuggle buddies, so this was really something to see)

    SecurityWriter,

    @jerry @SecurityWriter way better than Threads drama.

    It’s worrying how often I think about how energy efficient moths are.
