We woke up to no water this morning. Expecting the plumber to show up by 11 and hoping it’s not a complicated fix.

In the meantime we’re getting a refresher course on how essential running water is to EVERYTHING.

Good Thursday morning. We have sun + the promise of 70+F temps. In celebration of the warm(er) weather I'll balance the checkbook on the back porch. It's the little things. 😉

I'll try to remember my "spider stick" and keep it handy on my walk today. Yesterday there were a record number of webs across openings into the woods. In the middle of each one was a spider, just waiting. It didn't matter that the spiders were small - they were at eye level. 😬

Good morning! Another cloudy day with showers. Today my mom will be discharged from rehab and move into her new apartment at assisted living. Her furniture + possessions are already there, so we're hoping it will be as seamless as possible. Still, it will be a big change to have a new living space after living where she'd been since 1978. (Yep, 1978.) Another lesson that no matter how old you get, you need to stay resilient!

Have a good day no matter how many changes come your way.

I'm a living, breathing example of the domino effect. I stayed up too late finishing a book. The book's an unsatisfying ending kept my mind going + I had trouble falling asleep. This resulted in me to sleeping in.

I'm still not quite awake, despite coffee, but trying to be productive. This could be a mistake. We'll see how it goes. At least it's Friday.

Good morning! Today I woke up still excited about a discovery I made yesterday in my family tree. I found my 2xgreat grandparents + their children on a passenger list when they immigrated from Ireland to Boston.

I know this isn't big news for anyone else, but I've worked on this for weeks. I had to learn a lot about Irish + immigration records, but I did it + I'm proud of myself. I'll be smiling all day.

Find something to smile about today, even though it's Monday.

M is out at a meeting tonight and I had a pie crust to make + cranberry orange sauce to put together. So I poured a glass of wine, put on my music, maybe a bit too loud, and danced my way through the kitchen.

It's all done and cleaned up, but the music continues. I need to dance more often, even if it's by myself.

This is the time of year I can't walk through our woods without waving a stick in front of me. This is spider time - they've all built their invisible webs across the paths. 🕷️ 🕸️

Good morning! Crazy weather day- I woke up to strong sun, then rain, + now heavy clouds, all in the last 2 hours. I'm just savoring the coffee until things settle.

One of the things Maryland does well is mail-in voting. That is how I choose to vote. Our primary is May 14, but I've already received my ballot + sent it back in. This morning I've gotten a text that it was received by the Board of Elections. In May they'll notify me when it's counted. Easy peasy! 😍

One of the things I have learned about birds is that access to water is important. Some birds only come to our "bird area" for the birdbaths, not the feeders.

I love the various styles of use. Some birds stand daintily on the rim and drink. Some hop in, jump around and do a little dance as they splash + fluff their feathers.

My favorites are the ones who hunker down in the water and just sit, like it's a relaxing hot tub. You can almost hear the "Ahhh".

In a stopgap attempt to postpone the cold front that's headed our way tomorrow night I've transferred my summer clothes to the back of my closet and moved things for cooler weather to the front. In the past this usually ensures that we get a hot spell. 🤞

I hope to spend time reading on the back porch later. An added bonus- watching the cats jump at the random leaves falling. It's new to them every year. 🍂

I won’t say that I’m addicted, but I just brewed some coffee and put it in a thermos. In case we lose power overnight I’ll at least have some caffeine to start the day tomorrow.

My easy morning was interrupted by a phone call from my sister. Seems Mom was experiencing discomfort early this morning, enough to be concerning. I’m my sister’s sounding board. She lives closest + has the powers of attorney, so she’s bearing the brunt of this. I live 4 hours away, the other 2 are across country.

I was in that position one for my Dad. I know the toll it takes-the unexpected phone calls, the decisions to be made without enough information.

Good Wednesday morning! I'm heading out early for a hair appointment and to run some errands.

I'm grateful for the sun, but I'm looking forward to some 50F degree temperatures tomorrow. I should adjust my attitude and just be happy we don't have any snow in the forecast. I'll take a long walk through the woods and hope that helps.

Happy #SlackerdaySaturday ! It’s a cold morning, but the sun is out and I’m enjoying it from inside.

I’ve got a sore throat and some congestion, my body’s typical response to stress. Luckily relaxation is my plan for the weekend, and I’m determined to fight this off. Reading and a nap are on my agenda. A healthy dose of cat cuddling will be included, as always.

Happy #SlackerdaySaturday! I'm fully embracing the spirit of the day. I'm having a hard time getting going today. So far, I haven't accomplished much except drinking coffee and watching the birds greedily empty my feeders. I guess filling the feeders will be the next thing on my agenda.

Good #SlackerdaySaturday. I got about 6 hours of sleep before waking at 3:30 with a brain that wouldn’t stop.

Coffee is really helping restore my sense of wellbeing, despite the rain outside, so I’m grateful for that.

I will just keep putting one foot in front of the other and help mom come to terms with the downsizing she has to do as she prepares to move into assisted living. 45 years in one place results in a lot of things to let go of.

Good Monday morning! I’m starting my week with a filling replacement at the dentist this morning. It’s definitely not my choice of activities, but there’s no doubt the week will improve after that.

No rain in the forecast until Saturday, so I’m hoping the woods will dry out to increase my walking options. Things have been pretty waterlogged lately.

Leaving soon for the hospital- we can’t get in to the ICU until noon. So nice to get a walk and a shower in. It’s hard to be here, but no where else I’d rather be at the moment.

Good Tuesday morning! The sun is up and the clouds are few. I’m going out to run some errands soon, so I can enjoy the good weather when I return.

The hummingbirds are gradually coming in greater numbers. I love that they aren’t afraid of us being close by. If they want a drink from our feeders they don’t care if we’re standing nearby or not. Such tiny, fearless little creatures.

So far it’s a much quieter day than yesterday. I’m feeling more rested, despite being startled awake at 11pm by a red alert warning for a tornado. The alert was for home in MD, but I’m not there, so there wasn’t much I could do but worry. I’m good at that.

We’ll take it easy today. Tomorrow Mom has an appointment with her regular doctor to review everything. We move forward step by step.

I’m enjoying the day + taking the time to notice the blessings around me. Hope you can too.

Good morning! It's a very gray, cloudy day, and I have nothing on my agenda except exercise and a genealogy webinar. (Both good things.)

Taking extra time today to notice the birds. Our American redstarts are late to arrive this year and our goldfinches seem to have moved on while I was in NJ. 😔

Good #SofaSunday to you! It’s too early to tell what kind of weather day we’ll have. One thing is certain- it will be an easy day, ending with a cookout later.

It’s an informal family tradition that we grill out for the summer holidays of Memorial Day, July 4th + Labor Day and whatever family is in the area shows up.

Everyone contributes, even the grandchild. Her job is to take a count of hamburgers, cheeseburgers +/or hot dogs wanted.

Good food and simple fun.
