SkaveRat,

Dan Olson did a great video on flat earthers. With a mid-video twist on why you don’t see as much of them anymore as you used to

In Search Of A Flat Earth

Production wise it’s one of my favorite video essays

SkaveRat,

I wish.

In case people don’t want to get spoiled:

spoilerThe essay theorizes that the people flocked to qanon

SkaveRat,

yup. that’s exactly what the second half of the video is about

SkaveRat,

They already blocked porn sites in a couple states

SkaveRat,

the problem is, when it’s illegal, and you get caught, you’ll face the consequences.

Or if you did something else wrong. VPN installed to look at porn? Well, now you did two things wrong, you must be a super special bad person. More prison time for you.

The people behind it don’t care in the slightest that you watch porn. They care to have something in hand against you in case you’re falling out of line

SkaveRat,

the weirdest location I ever heard that sound was a random small supermarket that had that sound as the scan-bleep-sound of the register barcode scanner.

Every item that was getting pulled over it, went “uh oh”

Linus Tech Tips (LTT) release investigation results on former accusations (x.com)

There were a series of accusations about our company last August from a former employee. Immediately following these accusations, LMG hired Roper Greyell - a large Vancouver-based law firm specializing in labor and employment law, to conduct a third-party investigation. Their website describes them as “one of the largest...

The defamation statement was maybe a bit much, but also warranted. People need to know that just throwing accusations out there that are just plainly not true is actually legally problematic.

I also don’t get why people feel this is “threatening people who want to speak up in the future”.

If your “speaking up” has merit, it’s not defarmation. Plain and simple.

Companies make mistakes (and aparently some were made in this case, and dealt with).

But I find it concerning that people also just blindly trust any and all claims that individuals make about these kind of situations. Believe that they are telling the truth, but also verify that this is actually true. The latter part is important. Blind trust is as damaging as not doing anything at all about a proble, There are people out there who get laid off for legitimate reasons, and try to retaliate for that. Even by claiming BS reasons.

SkaveRat,

fwiw, they changed their process and output amount a lot after that

SkaveRat,

personally, I think they handled the situation the best way the could.

Gamers Nexus had genuine good criticism, and they took it, took a moment to pause and implemented fixes.

Mistakes happen. And they learned from them

Now that DuckDuckGo is out. Give me your search prompts and I'll answer them as best I can. That includes images (based on what I have saved on my PC). So what is it you wish to know or see?

Edit: Due to popular demand FatTony Search servers are down for the time being. but has gone open source just in time (Yes that’s how it works 😡) . You may now get responses from other users. Servers will be back up some time later.

SkaveRat,

Climate change in general.

Weather getting worse and worse

SkaveRat, (edited )

this is for the transition. no point in porting your software if nobody has the hardware. This will get people to get the hardware, as they can just keep using the existing software, and wait until it’s properly ported

Edit: you people really think windows is the only software that needs a translation? Do you only ever use your OS on your computer, and not a single software more?

SkaveRat,

because helium is f’ing expensive an valuable. Once used, it’s basically gone. There’s a reason that countries have strategic helium reserves.

Also on the topic, modern day companies that try to resurrect airships exist. Just every single one of them goes bust, as it’s just not really a viable solution for modern transport

SkaveRat,

If it’s so “expensive and valuable” then why have we been using it for decades to fill balloons here in the US?

good question! lots of people actually lobby to wither ban this (unlikely that it will happen) or at least make it more expensive.

Helium is increadibly important in the medical and science field. Having it “wasted” in party balloons is honestly, well, wasteful (if fun).

Helium is already getting more expensive, and it will only rise in the future

The reason it was so cheap in the last couple decades is, that the US basically sold off most, if not almost all of its stockpile, dumping the price on the market.

And now with very few sources for helium worldwide, the price will go up massively in the next couple years

SkaveRat,

Boeing working hard to fix this
