SoNick, to foss in FOSS email clients on Linux?

@jennifilm Isn't Thunderbird open source? It worked well enough for the bit I used it ages ago.

SoNick, to reddit in r/place extension going as expected

@TeamAssimilation Last time they allowed brand new accounts to engage, I don't remember if they did in 2017 or not.

@awesome_person @Kinglink

SoNick, to asklemmy in Who/What are your favourite content creators?

@Tsouintsouin Yeah, I hear some of his team worked with a big video game company in the 90s?

@Ilflish

SoNick, to guitars in How much does string thickness matter?

@RageAgainstTheSurge
Other posters already covered it but yeah, in standard tuning string thickness might give you a very slight, barely detectable difference if any at all. Thicker strings only matter when you're playing in alternate tunings, and even then you have to tune quite aways down before regular strings hit their limit and become too floppy to use.

Outside of that? Strings aren't meant to last forever! Try several different types and find what you like!

SoNick, to technology in Why is technology not making us more productive?

@Peaces I don't get it, that's just someone performing a DDT on thin air

@soyagi @nivenkos @KevonLooney @LexiconDexicon

SoNick, to fediverse in IMO The Best Thing about the Fediverse is...

@Haui I generally agree with that sentiment, but r/emulation in particular had a great mod team that culled out the ton of low efforf posts like "I downloaded a Pokémon ROMs how do I make it work" and "some emulator just released a new version, here's my 'video showcase' that barely mentions the emulator in question. Don't forget to like and subscribe!" and so on.

@MdRuckus @kratoz29

SoNick, to selfhosted in (Why) would it be "bad practice" to separate CPU and storage to separate devices?

@a_fancy_kiwi Exactly! In a business environment where you need to squeeze every possible penny and every second of downtime is money lost, OP is introducing additional potential points of failure.

In a homelab where downtime is just an inconvenience? Go for it! Try it for yourself and see how you like it!

SoNick, to asklemmy in Looking for suggestions for a place to move in the US as a remote employee

@FPSkra I also hear it's the electric city; they call it that because of the electricity

@Anissem

SoNick, to asklemmy in Looking for suggestions for a place to move in the US as a remote employee

@ImADifferentBird I was going to say somewhere in Western Kansas would be good as Wichita is Koch-sucking territory, but OP said they're an introvert so they may be able to put up with the bullshit. Out on this side of the state it's mostly senile old people with backwards-ass views and the occasional extremist douche that the rest of the community laughs at the second they open their mouths.

@Anissem

SoNick, to showerthoughts in You don't actually need a parachute to go skydiving...

@tomkatt
This isn't a shower thought, it's just a repost of an ancient meme

SoNick, to gaming in Ubisoft Can Delete Inactive Accounts, Making Users Lose Access to Their Games

@TheTrueLinuxDev They briefly gained my support with the community outreach they used to do with Rocksmith 2014...
Then they launched the shitty subscription service Rocksmith+ and fired most of their community team and I remembered that yeah this is still fucking Ubisoft I was dealing with

@Chozo

SoNick, to assholedesign in Ubisoft will delete your account if you haven't logged for some time (Even if you owned games in it)

@Kichae Yeah, but Ubisoft has a long history of sitting on the edge of anti-consumer. Valve hasn't entered that territory.

@ComeHereOrIHookYou @housepanther @gk99

SoNick, to guitars in Would it be worth it to fully upgrade a Squier Bullet?

@Artichuth
So first of all if you ever plan on reselling the guitar then know you won't get as much money out of the guitar as you spent on the modifications. However, if you like playing the guitar in general then it's worth it to play with modifications to make it even more suited to your style.

I never modified the cheap Radio Shack guitar I started with, but I keep it around as it was my first guitar. My MIM strat, though? I've played with all sorts of modifications over the years as it's my main guitar. I did pick up a pawn shop special to experiment with humbuckers before modifying my strat and found it doesn't suit my style, but otherwise? I've replaced sooo many parts on the strat over the years to make it my own.
