Swarming, to worldnews in Pro-Palestine protesters chant ‘Gas the Jews’ outside Sydney Opera House

The PLO and Fatah both recognise the state of Israel and its right to exist, have given up armed struggle, and signed the Oslo Accords with Israel, accepting a peaceful political pathway to a two state solution.

I don’t think burying this and pretending it didn’t happen is helpful when Jews around the world are telling us right now that they are terrified and under attack

Why does Russia think anyone cares what it says at this point? Until the war ends, nobody is required to do anything for Russia.

I don’t think he’s completely wrong. A lot of people felt similarly. I know SkillUp felt similarly that if you had a really good PC and could overlook the (unforgiveable, admittedly) bugs, it had a lot going for it.

Definitely. About two years ago, I read Michel Houellebecq’s Soumission. And it’s still just sort of constantly in my head. I don’t read it as a kind of reactionary book at all – in fact it’s a strangely utopian book, pessimistic about the possibility of secular politics to rectify deep metaphysical questions in our societies, but strangely curious and probing about whether Islam could in fact at least answer them. The ambiguity at the heart of that novel still puzzles and interests me.

I should read it again…

I’ve been going back and reading Freud’s Civilisation and its Discontents again. I still think it has some pretty profound wisdom about the nature of desire, conflict, violence, and what it takes to make civilisation possible!

Swarming, to worldnews in Early stages of Ukrainian counteroffensive ‘not meeting expectations,’ Western officials tell CNN
@Swarming@sh.itjust.works avatar

Nobody is being forced to die for any cause. Ukrainians are fighting Russia because Russia intends to wipe their country off the map. I don't really see why you think you have the right to tell Ukrainians that they don't have the right to fight for the existence of their country.

Swarming, to agora in [Discussion] Defederation does not do what you think it does
@Swarming@sh.itjust.works avatar

I think I agree. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of going too far, too fast in defederating from servers which have people whose views some users here find objectionable. There are some cases where it's fairly clear-cut, and I'd feel comfortable. Outright fascists and MAGA servers. Bot-farms. Ones designed to disseminate disinformation and fake news.

If their users are interacting with us in ways which are hostile, disruptive, etc. then we should defederate, obviously. Though that will only go so far given open registrations.

But this server is not, as far as I'm aware, intended to be of a specific political hue, nor primarily about politics. So, I think we should be cautious and careful, partly because I've seen 'tankie' used to describe such a wide range of views, often with very little in common between them.

It's a really nice change of pace. Reddit can be such an unpleasant place outside of posts about cats or food or whatever. Silly stuff like that.

Scummy company. I don't really understand why the United States doesn't have a federal level basic right to unionization. Why should the company have any say in this whatsoever?
