Whether it was fascist or not matter because the word has lost its meaning. Could be something fairly innocuous really.
CNN sources a Media Matters report which goes into detail as to the content of the twitter account. Tl;dr, it’s an explicitly neo-nazi account which regularly posted memes and content praising Hitler and the Nazi party and pushing neo-nazi talking points.
I’m not sure what it accomplishes playing semantic games about whether something fits the technical definition of fascism (Nazi Germany absolutely does, btw) when the commonly understood definition of far-right, ultra-nationalist, authoritarianism is abundantly clear.
lol yeah sounds totally righteous to dictate which opinions others should have
I don’t think anyone is proposing that we dictate others’ opinions. But companies, advertisers, and platforms are under no obligation to be associated with the expression of those opinions, and I have no issue stating that Nazis, Fascists, and their ideological descendants are very unwelcome on Beehaw.
I understand frustration with potential spoilers, but to be fair this scene was in a livestreamed demo that Larian hosted that went viral before the game even launched. It’s not been kept particularly secret and I don’t think it’s probably a major plot point.
Just a reminder to everyone in the comments to be kind. Folks feel very strongly about this subject, and for very good reasons, but we can have empathy and compassion for one another even while disagreeing. Please remember that you are interacting with other humans here.
As the title says. I severely dislike having to make accounts for every game publisher that wants to send me advertisements, collect data or whatever....
You already had comments removed from this thread yesterday. Since you couldn’t take the hint to disengage and stop this bickering, I’m temp banning you from this community for 24 hours. No matter how irritated you are that OP didn’t pay attention to the prompt to skip login, this isn’t an acceptable way to behave on this instance.
Hey folks - Just want to note that the !Technology mod team is aware of the reports on this post. After some discussion we decided to leave the thread up, since it had already generated a decent amount of good discussion despite the problems with the article itself. However, I do want to make it clear that we do not condone intentionally misgendering people.
If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to reply here or DM me.

@ReCursing, @Cube6392, @acastcandream - I think there is discussion to be had here, but it’s clear to me that folks are getting a bit too heated to be kind to one another. I completely understand, this is a topic that is complicated and that lots of folks are passionate about. I think it is probably time for everyone involved to disengage from the discussion and cool off. If you have questions or concerns, please direct them to me via DM.
I think bots can have a place, but I prefer ones that have to be intentionally invoked. I’m thinking of ones like MTGCardFetcher on the Magic the Gathering subreddit, which would post links to the card on Scryfall if you formatted the card name in double brackets in your comment.
Yeah I don’t disagree at all that it would be ideal if some of this kind of functionality could be built into the platform, but obviously that didn’t really happen at Reddit - which is why there were so many similar bots to allow subreddits to create extended functionality - and Lemmy is still new enough that contributors are still trying to fix major issues and get basic functionality working properly. In the meantime bots could fill some gaps, although I lean toward using them very sparingly.
The novelty bots on Reddit were a mixed bag for me. I struggle to think of any that I genuinely found amusing, most of them were at best annoying. The exception might be some of the reply bots on some meme subreddits I was on (r/wetlanderhumor and r/cremposting). There were also a few that, for some reason, really got under my skin. I think the ones that really frustrated me were the grammar bots that regularly replied with irrelevant corrections, and that one Shakespeare bot that “shakespearified” your comment with wildly incorrect early modern English grammar.
Hi @LexiconBexicon, can you explain what you are seeing here that is troubling to you or seems racially motivated? One of the core principles that we try to operate by here at Beehaw is to assume good faith in others. If you have questions about a user’s motivations, ask them (kindly) to clarify rather than assuming bad faith and responding in an accusatory way. We ask that users give other users the benefit of the doubt “unless they are unequivocally advocating for hate or intolerance of fellow humans”, which I’m not seeing in these comments.
While I appreciate that you’re trying to point out factual errors in the comment you are replying to, please keep in mind Beehaw’s primary principle (and only* rule) when interacting with folks in the comments: Be(e) Nice. You can correct factual errors, or just point out that a comment is wrong, without insulting the person making the comment. Please try to engage more kindly in the future. Thanks!
Food Not Bombs, a volunteer group that feeds the homeless, was issued tickets by Houston police for distributing meals outside the Central Library in violation of a city ordinance. At the first trial for one of the volunteers, Phillip Picone, the jury found him not guilty. The city claims the ordinance is meant to connect...
I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but Houston’s approach to homelessness is considered by some to be one of the most successful in the nation, and one of the components as I understand is to coordinate care for the homeless through a central agency, which then refers individuals to other programs and agencies. The idea is that it reduces duplication of effort. I’m not sure if this ordinance is related, though.
Hey @haxe11 and @Prandom_returns, I think we may have reached a point in this discussion where we are talking past one another. Please keep in mind the core ethos of Beehaw: Be(e) nice. We can argue from different points of view, but please remember the human on the other side of the screen. Avoid personal attacks and insults, de-escalate when things get heated, and if a discussion devolves then it may be time to just disengage. I think we have probably reached that point, here.
Hi @Melody - I think it might help to clarify that some of the questions that you are asking (what about their racism) are going to potentially be seen as racist dog-whistles. To be clear: I’m not accusing you of this, but the optics of coming into a minority-focused community on a post talking about a safe space for black and queer and asking questions like that are poor at best.
I think the best approach in a situation like this, if you have doubts about how a community will be operated, is to lurk quietly and find out. If the community/instance vibes with you, then great! If not, then it’s probably best to make a quiet exit rather than quizzing it’s creator in a way that can be seen (intentionally or not) as problematic.
Again, I hope that you don’t take anything I’m saying as accusatory. I just want to point out that the way you’re going about it here is going to put folks on their guard, and that it might just be best to disengage and observe quietly.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via DM to discuss more.
