First, I'm grateful and fortunate to currently have App Store features.
But, they haven't been updated in a long time. Example: Olli outsells Cinemin even though it's older. 🤷♂️ And no changes or new features in maybe 2 years.
It probably seem dumb and naive, but as a small developer my entire business strategy was to align with Apple’s "App Store eco system" (their term), do good work, and hope to go viral or get featured.
I feel that Apple used to nurture notable new apps, or apps that had traction in some countries, with feature spotlights, but I must have upset someone at some point?
Photo Tape didn't get on any new/notable or what's hot lists in any country, even though it was the number 1 photo app in Germany and in the top 10 for all paid apps. 🤷♂️
Every time I log into the App Store, it's the billionaire's club of developers: Snap, Adobe, HBO, Marvel, etc.
I don't have any App Store marketing contacts to address these concerns. If I do a major update for Waterlogue, what happens to the current App Store features? If I release it as a new app, will they keep featuring the old one to the detriment of the new version? That's a recipe for disaster. I can't afford to put a year of work into something that risky.
I’ve written to everyone I know at Apple, but no response. It's very disheartening.
As dumb as it sounds, I even sent an email to Craig Federighi—or at least what Google returns as his email.
I know he doesn’t run the App Store, but he seems like someone who Gets It. Even though I never met him, he did use Waterlogue to demo a new iOS Feature at WWDC, 10 years ago.
Yes, it’s corny, but really sums up the past few years.
On the positive side, the macOS App Store seems like a safer bet, moving forward, than the iOS App Store. I could, in theory develop and app that sells for a higher price than your average iOS app, and support it over a long time. From many aspects, it’s easier to develop a desktop app: UI, performance, etc.
I finally got rid of (donated) our spare twin mattress, but now we’ll have a guest in June. I was thinking of either an air mattress that can sustain its pressure (sensor and internal pump) or a “Japanese floor mattress.”
@MuseumShuffle Thank you for the name. Yea, I’m inclined to go this way, but it would need something like a tatami mat to make it more comfortable. I also gave away the memory foam mattress topper we had. 😅
@vga256 I set it to 4200K and use the auto white balance. It’s a bit different from photo to photo but I balance it out. I have all my screens set to warm so I'm not really color calibrated on any screen.
This thread will document my success or failure to build a dive-style watch.
I’m starting with the movement from a watch I’m using for parts, but it’s going to need a modification first:
The crown isn’t at the standard “3 O’clock” position. It’s @ “3.8 O’clock”. The day wheel on the movement is specifically for 3.8 O’clock and won’t align if used in a 3 O’clock case.
It’s also in English-Chinese; I’ll replace it with an English-Japanese day wheel.
The seconds hand has to balance on the head of a pin, which was hard because it was the first time I couldn't see or feel where I was placing something.
While the minute and hour hands need to be aligned, the seconds hand doesn’t, because it moves independently when the time is set.
It was a great success—except I forgot I didn't want to install this white seconds hand, so I’ll have to remove it and do it again tomorrow with the orange or red one I bought. 🤦♂️
