This was one of my favourite subreddits back in the day, and I can’t find its equivalent here so I’m going with “be the change you want to see in the world”....
It’s been on the back-burner for a bit but it’s time that I get on it and register our operation as a on-profit organization. We will be registering under the BC Societies Act. Completing this registration will allow for opening up a bank account under the organization’s name and reopen donations and have the previously...
Would be interested in knowing what kind of future projects we’re thinking about?
Other than a potential matrix server, I do not currently have anything in mind. The future is unpredictable.
An example of a non-profit effort that I took on in the past is COVID PPE 3D printing with volunteer community printers. If something like that was needed for pandemic or disaster relief again would be nice to not have to go through the trouble of spinning up a new non-profit.
I think we can definitely work with Canadian Open Source Communication Association. Maybe swap out Communication for Community.
Unfortunately it’s a bigger problem than you’d imagine it is. There are numerous fairly active committed that are essentially unmoderated at this point
As you may have already noticed, 3 new admins have been added. Welcome @TruckBC , @Shadow , and @Jarcode! There are also many more people that are helping behind the scenes as well. They have many years of experience moderating various subreddits, and I believe that they can bring lemmy.ca to the next level....
Lemmy.ca is hosted on OVHcloud as they have a Canadian data center. If you’re not specifically looking for a Canadian server, there’s many other options that are priced more attractively.
Thank you for the warm welcome. As @Smorks said there are many others behind the scenes that may or may not show up in the admin list over the next while.
We are currently actively preparing to transition the instance to a new dedicated server by the end of the weekend at the latest. We hope this higher powered server will be sufficient for the next few months but are ready with plans to scale up further when needed.
Unfortunately this means that there maybe some short periods of downtime over the weekend. We will make a post announcing planned downtime.
I’ll keep that in mind, and I’ve just had a realization, we can set up all the donation options and just not “cash out” until we’re determined non-profit status and how we’re going to set up the financial side of it.
There was no need to capitalize the word ‘grammar’
I’m going to blame that on using swipe/gesture typing. I definitely do know it shouldn’t have been capitalized. Honestly though I’m surprised that’s the only thing you found considering English is my third language.
I think you all need to figure out the correct Lemmy terminology and make a guide for all the lost Lemmings!
If this community adequately rips me a new one for poor English usage and Grammar in this comment and you guys figure out a Lemmy guide, we will pin it instance wide for at least 24 hours!

Average amount of on the job training a driver gets when hired is probably half a shift. You’re expected to know and be able to do it without any additional training.
I think that’s totally wrong and bullshit but that’s what’s going on out there. Where I work it’s 4-6 weeks full time for a driver with experience, 6 weeks to 10 weeks or so usually for a new driver, we’ve had at least one do 6 months+. We’re a definite outlier tho and probably do the most on the job training out of any trucking company in BC.

What're the odds lemmy.ca has a sister mastodon instance?
I like the admins here, so if you’re running a mastodon instance, I think I’d choose that one. Yes/no/planned/maybe/aliens?
