isnt "ai hardware" just proprietary math coprocessors hidden under undocumented proprietary apis? i imagine there could be legit uses for things like optimized convolution calculations that actual real applications could benefit from. i want to believe this current hype nonsense is really just a new iteration of myer and sutherland's wheel of reincarnation.
@Doomed_Daniel did go from north of san francisco to south of los angeles after living up there for nearly 20 years...wouldnt be surprised if different bacterial strains yeah, but i also rarely left home in general until the last several weeks
am I the only rabbit that prefers working in-person? Six months at a fully remote company where I never met my coworkers in person felt...unreal. like it felt the same way as working on an open source hobby project
idk about anyone else but personally if someone in an admin or developer position abuses trust (in this case, i mean things like exploits and rmt) on a fan-made private server, they're probably unfit for game dev in general, or at least online games
@Doomed_Daniel since you asked, a dev/admin on the largest final fantasy xi private server was found to be selling gold. i've always got bad vibes off the person in the past as it felt like they would overstate their abilities and chase clout.
i don't think they've ever worked in the games industry but i wouldn't want to work with them for petty reasons lol. but like maybe it's not industry blocklist-worthy, but i would have trouble trusting someone like that at a mmo company
Does anyone have any insight into why all the game dev layoffs are happening?
Like maybe loans are harder to get in general to fund companies. Or perhaps folks who would invest in games are investing in AI instead?
I was resenting all of these frameworks always telling you to run a magic command to instantly generate a project from templates instead of explaining what is required to set one up yourself, but then I realized it's because the whole thing is a complete mess, just broken broken broken
#FediBlock "social.hendrixgames.com". seems to be a single-user troll instance. they're doing something funky with ActivityPub / Plemora where their posts show up in people's replies but without tagging them or being part of an existing thread. challenged them on it but just got troll responses. their feed is full of right wing / conspiracy crap too.
@gsuberland I knew him from irc a couple decades ago-- I'm kinda disappointed but very much not surprised he has gotten more vocal and annoying since; he's definitely not someone that fits in our side of fedi
general game dev question: what books / online courses for #Blender would you recommend to a c programmer that has zero skill and experience in 3d modeling and animation but would like to learn and experiment with both? assume the target audience has some experience in 3d graphics programming and game development
not necessarily Blender-specific but learning a 3d modeler is a prerequisite for learning general 3d modeling and animation
