I love the immersive panoramas on visionOS. However, for this to be convincing you really need the photos to be high resolution. When I started printing large format panoramas for my walls, but still wanting to capture them on my iPhone, I had to learn how to maximize my pixels.

I capture 48MP frames and then merge them in Photoshop. The result is the equivalent of Retina vs Non-Retina when viewed on visionOS—or “That’s nice" vs “Oh, wow I'm on a mountain top"

Examples: https://www.david-smith.org/blog/2024/02/26/super-resolution-panoramas/

A screenshot showing the relative size of 1:1 section of a panorama with stacked version has roughly twice the pixels.
A photograph showing a large format panorama on mounted on the wall, the photograph shows Ben Nevis in Scotland.
A super high resolution panorama taken from Hellvelyn in the UK Lake District. It is brown and rocky with blue skies and sweeping views over to the far reaching fells.

_lenin_,

@_Davidsmith thanks!. Btw, care to share what Apple Watch band is that one?.

I found a fun bar in Manila to work on the keynote. Not too bad to be chillin’ in the warm weather.

_lenin_,

@mkennedy that's a nice remote office, Sir!. Wondering if you are using a travel/portable Bluetooth keyboard. Any recommendations?

Cleaning out and reinstalling my iMac Pro is a good reminder of how much faster computers are five years later. This thing feels slow!

_lenin_,

@jamesthomson be grateful it's not a Windows machine....

_lenin_,

Happy 40th birthday, Macintosh!

To make it about me for a second, the fact that PCalc is 31 years old too is just wild, because it means I’ve been doing all this for a not insignificant chunk of the Mac’s entire existence.

It definitely felt to me like I came late to the Mac, because I didn’t use one until 1990, but in reality it was only 6 years old when I bought a Mac Classic.

Not to mention, I was working at Apple itself when the Mac was only 12.

Now somehow, it’s 40? How does that work?

_lenin_,

@jamesthomson all I read was “we are getting old..” 😅

I sure hope you like big calculators.

_lenin_,

@jamesthomson no issue with the size, although a smaller version might be useful as a side app, I would think. Not sure though, and won’t know until I sell a kidney and get a … probably in 5 years.

I'm full of a stinker of a cold so I've not been doing to much... however just had a fun hour learning some stuff about expressions in @FreeCAD I worked out how to draw a spherically blunted tangent ogive rocket nosecone... its MUCH easier to just download the Rocket Workbench add on, but I've learnt some stuff on the way here!

_lenin_,

@concretedog @FreeCAD I've been meaning to switch from to and although I've heard it's super powerful, I've also heard it's not that easy to use. Are there any tutorials/videos online that you would recommend for somebody who has used other CAD software?.

_lenin_,

@mcdanlj @concretedog @FreeCAD great, thanks for the recommendation!. Looks like it’s a popular YT channel for tutorials.

As many people who live the life can relate one accumulates lots of old projects resulting in obsolete components, copious circuit boards of sequential revisions, and gadgets that worked fine but failed to sustain further interest once built.

Cleaning out these troves is a painful path through: "I'll reuse this someday" versus "there's no way I'll ever use this again" and "maybe I can scavenge components off this."

_lenin_,

@ottaross LOL, I can definitely relate. There is also a lot of “did I make this?, when?!”.
