Curious to hear researchers’ and funders’ perspectives on Registered Reports - articles that get in-principle acceptance in a journal regardless of the result?

Join us next Thursday Jan 25th at noon CET 🗓️ for an online Lunch 🍽️ where we will discuss first hand experiences with and how research funders can support this two-step publishing format to reduce research waste and publishing bias. Open to all! https://www.ub.uio.no/english/courses-events/events/open-science-lunch/2024-01-25.html

Y'all, it's cold. I don't think I've ever experienced this cold before.

Feels like -36C, -33F 😱

Pray for my pipes...

agata,

@Drmowinckels Did I just put on ski pants to walk to the nearby store? Yes I did ☃️

Isn’t it a bit ironic that is sponsoring a big international event?

Reflecting on reproducibility in space science:

My second major paper was reproducing another result on galaxy cluster populations and my results were the opposite of the original work. I was using a different sample and techniques, and I did not attempt to directly reproduce the original work. At a much later point, I had a discussion with some of the original authors about swapping samples but we never found time for that.

agata,

@crawfordsm Would you call this a reproduction or replication (since it’s on a new/different sample)? Reproducing and replicating studies can mean different things across different fields - curious how these terms are currently used in space science!

agata,

@crawfordsm Got it! Thanks, this is very useful. I was teaching on this today to researchers across different fields and their understanding of these terms differed quite a bit - would be interesting to see a more systematic mapping of these concepts across disciplines - I usually follow @turingway categorization:
