I heard many folks at PyCon — including a few very prominent ones who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty! — claiming that “black text on a white background” is uniformly and obviously the superior accessibility choice for conference presentations, for various reasons. This is, at the very least, debatable, and I think it would not be too spicy of a take to say it is straightforwardly incorrect. Some evidence follows: 🧵

@glyph Writing a talk that doesn’t rely on slides also makes you more resilient to an AV failure.

I’ve walked into multiple talks with slides that were simple enough that if the projector didn’t work, I could present sans-slides rather than waste time faffing around with the projector. (And I’ve done it once! I don’t think anybody noticed.)

Of course not every talk can do that, it takes more practice, and it’s nicer to have the slides if you can – but it’s quite freeing not to require them.

has anyone tried using the 'git undo' from the git-branchless project? https://github.com/arxanas/git-branchless

a general "undo" feature for git seems like such a cool idea and I'm curious about whether it works well in practice

@b0rk I haven’t tried this particular project, but I use the GitUp GUI app for macOS and it has an “undo” feature.

It uses the standard shortcut so I use it without thinking, works great IME.

@b0rk one of these days I need to write about why I like it so much; it’s pretty much the only way I interact with Git for my regular work

My test suite has just one dot on the last line. What would you do?

  • Delete one test
  • Change the width of the terminal
  • Keep it as a visceral reminder of the uncomfortably chaotic nature of the universe
  • Write more tests

@nedbat Switch your terminal to a proportional font

@kepano if AI isn't the next big feature for obsidian, is it sharp cutting tools

should makers of apps with tomato-based icons be quaking in their boots

is obsidian coming for the pomodoro timer app market
