A large study confirms that curiosity is an important predictor of academic achievement - across the board but particularly for low-income kids: https://is.gd/zLBk8u.
Painfully ironic given the curiosity-killing practices (scripted direct instruction, behavior management, etc.) that such kids get in spades.

The more you know about what raises scores on standardized tests, the less likely you'd be to celebrate a high score or fret about a low one. Today's 1st example (via Linda McNeil): "unteaching" in order to dumb kids down for the test.

You'll also be disillusioned if you attend to how tests are constructed: https://is.gd/hg6NyD.

Keep both in mind when you read, say, extended lamentations about "learning loss" that equate learning with test scores (& never bother to defend that assumption).

If I use "woke" as a sneering epithet, it means (1) I'm white or male or straight or Christian, (2) you've just reminded me that (a) not everyone is like me, and (b) they, too, deserve respect, (3) I resent that reminder, but (4) I can't cite a defensible reason for my reaction.

That he may be indicted for four separate clusters of serious offenses should lay bare the pattern, the scope and enormity of his criminality. What terrifies me is that ~40% of voters live in an alternate reality where the more crimes he's held accountable for, the clearer it seems to them that he's just being persecuted.
