Some recent package updates: chromium (-ungoogled), ffmpeg, handbrake, pipewire-jack

Chromium, regular and un-googled.

Google is speeding up its Chromium release cycle. Let's see if I can keep up since I also build the -ungoogled variant. The latest update is 116.0.5845.140 and addresses a vuln

@alien WAsn't supercollider. It was pipewire. Should already be fixed, but I haven't had time to rebuild pipewire.

August’23 refresh of Slackware Live ISO collection

Last weekend I pushed version 1.7.0.1 of liveslak code to my git repository and used it to generate a fresh batch of Slackware Live ISO images.

Main change between 1.7.0 and 1.7.0.1 is fixing the broken Ventoy support on UEFI computers. Slackware Live ISO works out of the box on Ventoy again. The documentation will help

New 13.2.0 for -current is finally compiling (there's stuff you don't do while traveling, sorry folks for having to stall your upgrades).
Packages at the usual mirror locations hopefully later today.

@alien Feel your pain somewhat. I get summer-onset SAD, so really feel the effects of it August/end of July, before the days start getting shorter.

@garpu luckily I am not affected by autumn depression like so many people I know. But, I am not a rain and mud person, so two weeks in a camper van in the rain is still causing some feelings of depression

@garpu The positive note is that I installed 4 solar panels on the van's roof, a 220V inverter inside and a dual-SIM Wi-Fi router running on 12V. I stayed off-grid for 6 full days in cloudy/rainy weather without the need for external electricity and had internet speeds that were 10 times that of my smartphone thanks to the router's excellent LTE antenna. Could charge two laptops, two bike batteries and our phones with no problems.
So, mixed holiday experience...

@alien You run into the framebuffer/nvidia bug with the 6.1 kernel? Getting really tired of it not being fixed for older cards. IMO, it's sweetening the deal to replace it (eventually) with AMD.

@garpu I am traveling for a while and have nothing but this laptop with me. I haven't dealt with the Nvidia blob for months and have not played games for even longer. Is the nouveau driver not sufficient?
I guess it is not an option to downgrade to a 5.x kernel.

@garpu pretty shitty actually, I have a severe sleep deficiency, I can't sleep well since my two spinal hernias in 2019. Feels like my intellect is in standby mode.
