He spent 75 million for the house next to one he already owned. He’s worth $156 billion.
Let’s say you have 100k in the bank. The equivalent purchase for you would be something costing roughly $50. He bought a mansion worth more than I’ll ever see for proportionally less than what I would spend on an AAA video game.
Oh and it’ll either hold value or appreciate, so he will likely just make more money on it. Or at the very least pay relatively a lot less once he decides to sell.
As a dev, though not a game dev, I’ll wager good money this is not the outcome you’d find on a survey of the game devs involved. It’s the kind of thing that devs will suggest when asked “okay let’s say we need to make this next iteration as cheaply as possible now, what could we do?” But most of the devs likely take pride in their craft and if given the time would definitely want to optimize their game.
But look, guys, you asked for this by saying you want us to pay staff better. We will, but first we need to increase some prices heavily because I only took this CEO job because of the juicy bonus and I’m definitely not giving that up. Would you? And don’t forget the board we’re so lucky to have who need their stipends and stock grants etc, lest they find other companies willing to bow to their demands. We wouldn’t be who we are if we didn’t keep paying the top dogs top dollar.
I asked Valve about how they might approach solving this problem if it was their game and they literally ran away from me while yelling something that sounded vaguely like “Modern Warfare Alyx.”
I couldn’t find the Flintstones movie from 1994 anywhere but googling it I found it here archive.org/details/the-flintstones_202304 and you can either download it via torrent or directly. On top of it it says that the movie is CC0 which means Public Domain. But that can’t really be, it’s only 29 years old....
Yes but sometimes their kids just talk forever, or they themselves just ignore the reality that their time has come, and we’ve got places to be. So the nice request comes with a deadline.
The purpose of Linux is to be a free and open source OS kernel on top of which free and open source software can provide whatever user experience they want to provide and users are free to pick one.
I legitimately credit Compiz and CCSM for kick-starting my obsession with FOSS and probably doubling or more my salary by getting me on Linux earlier in life.
I’m quite happy with Backblaze B2 for my backup storage. I think I pay like $3/mo for a few hundred gigabytes though they did recently change their pricing. Iirc it wasn’t going to affect me much. On top of their security settings like encryption and deletion locks, I use local encrypted backup tools like restic that make it dead simple to worry less.
I used Plex for my home media for almost a year, then it stopped playing nice for reasons I gave up on diagnosing. While looking at alternatives, I found Jellyfin which is much more responsive, IMO, and the UI is much nicer as well....
