Seriously, it’s embarrassing to watch this. I’m experiencing pity. I didn’t think I could pity such a rich asshole, but the levels of divorced dad energy here are genuinely making me wish someone would take this guy out for ice cream and talk him into deleting his social media and getting his life back in order.
TLDR: While Fediverse won’t directly serve you ads, anonymous bad actors other than Meta can save, redistribute, and even dox you for any information you post here. Anything you post here can/will remain forever on some malicious instance that doesn’t honor deletion requests. So be careful!
I think it would be a great way to give money to the hosters and get something that actually helps the community. Like having the cake and eating it too....
For those unaware, Ben-Givir has a history of advocating for violent Israeli nationalist terrorism.
I’m his youth, he was denied from participating in Israel’s compulsory year of military service because the Israeli military considered him a dangerous radical. Now, due to the rightward shift of the electorate he is in charge of the justice department.
Seeing a big “politics” community in both lemmy.ml and lemmy.world just confuses me as to which I should be subscribing to and I don’t really want to subscribe to both....
It’s a much more organic reflection of older systems. It used to be that there were local newspapers, national ones, and international ones. I want the same thing with my memes. I want a place I go to see what the hot movies and games across the world, and another where discussions are mostly people in my geography or who share a common set of tastes with me.
This idea that the internet should flatten the world into one monoculture has been, in my opinion, both naive and destructive to a lot of tastes that don’t align with the dominant tastemakers.
Also, do people know that Threads isn’t currently federated? They say they’re going to add that as a feature in the future, but they aren’t now and I’m skeptical that they ever will.
What do you think are the biggest limitations to robots in the home? Privacy concerns, limited utility, inability to overcome simple obstacles, price or something else?
I tried to build one, and the hardest thing was setting up route planning. But it was also way easier than it could’ve been, and if I’d wanted to, I could’ve solved my problem by buying more common, modern sensors.
The field, I think, is moving along really well. There’s always things that could be easier, but I’m loathe to complain when so many people have made such great open source tools.
I was using ROS with a Kinect 1 and an old Roomba, running on a Jetson Nano, btw.
Yeah, it’s a credit to the quality of the design that something so complicated also seems kind of accessible. I just discovered that they post build videos on their YouTube: www.youtube.com/channel/UCbvgGc6YR9hhk3N0axVjm4w

So how do you expect it to shake out, btw? Do you think if there’s enough centaur cock on the sub they’ll be forced to let you stay? Are you expecting to get demodded regardless? I’m deeply curious.
I just saw that lemmy.ml has pre-emptively defederated from threads. Are there any plans to do that here? I personally want nothing to do with Meta/Facebook, and I’m sure that’s not an unpopular opinion around here....

Isn’t it a bit of an annoying having repeat communities across various Lemmy instances?
